On Tuesday 5 March, students from 7F to 7Z took part in their first high school excursion, heading to Melbourne Museum.
Students explored the Bunilaka Exhibition, and delved into the fascinating world of Aboriginal culture, where ancient stories and contemporary art painted a vivid picture of Australia's indigenous heritage. Students drew upon traditional artefacts and immersive multimedia displays to explore what life in Australia was like prior to colonisation.
Highlights included exploring a Gunditjamara Possum Cloke, Eel Traps, and developing a better understanding of sustainable practices developed by First Nation peoples over thousands of years, which fostered a profound appreciation of the diverse tapestry of cultures that have shaped our nation.
Students also visited the Melbourne Story Gallery, and audited the artefacts on display to evaluate what makes a good museum display. From artefacts, supporting text and multimedia displays, students gained a better insight into what it takes to curate a museum display. This rich understanding will be put to use in our new Term 2 project, “Night at the Museum.”
