Achievements and pathways

Huge congratulations to the Class of 2023 on their fantastic results and achievements.

94.4% of our Year 12 students who applied for tertiary education received an offer - what a wonderful achievement! Others have gone into the workforce through an apprenticeship or full-time employment, and we are so proud of them all. It has been great to speak to many past students this year and hear about their plans for 2024 - study, travel, apprenticeships, gap years – what an exciting time to explore all the opportunities life has to offer!

It was a pleasure to share their life ambitions last year and help them plan their future.

Morrisby Program

Year 9 students were introduced to the My Career Insights, Morrisby Program during Home Group this term.

Morrisby is a career assessment tool designed for students in Year 9 to discover possible career paths, develop an awareness of the vast array of careers in the world of work, and assist them to drive their career planning, giving them the confidence to start mapping out their future. Morrisby is a vital tool when choosing senior subjects that can give them the foundational knowledge and skills to work toward their future study or work goals.

The Morrisby Program is presented in two stages. Stage one is online profiling, where students complete a series of online aptitude, interest, and personality questions. This produces a report which is presented to the students during stage two, a 1:1 consultation with a trained Morrisby consultant, to unpack their profiling results and investigate suggested career options.

Year 9 students will begin their Morrisby journey at the start of Term 2 with profiling and then later in the term with the 1:1 unpacking interviews. Parents are invited to attend the 1:1 online interview with the Morrisby consultants. Students have lifelong access to the program. More information will be posted on Compass and sent via email in early Term 2.

Work experience

Work experience is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the world of work during a one-week block, with dates mutually agreed upon between the student and the employer. We offer all Year 10 students the opportunity to participate in the Work Experience program.

Students attended a Work Experience Workshop in Term 1 and now have all the information required to set up some work experience. The work experience handbook will be posted on Teams for students to access and share with their family when planning a placement.

Any enquiries can be directed to the Careers team.

VET (Vocational Education and Training)

BHHS has over 60 students attending TAFE or Registered Training Organisations for VET classes. Studying a VET subject offers a broad educational experience, a rewarding learning environment, and students get to meet students from other schools to work alongside and collaborate with. Students who successfully complete a VET subject will complete Year 12 with a VCE and a Certificate (Cert II to IV) in their chosen field, which is an invaluable step toward future career planning.

VET places are limited each year and students need to be endorsed by their coordinator and have a pathway discussion with the careers team to apply. Students need to be aware of the commitment to studying an external subject, but the benefits are extensive.  If students are interested in knowing more, they can come and have a chat in the Careers office.

School-based Apprenticeship/Traineeships (SBATs)

Huge congratulations to the following Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students who have secured a School Based Apprenticeship:

Lucio L - Carpentry

Cameron N – Carpentry

Nathanael Z – Electrical

Aidan J – Electrical

Ambrose S – Electrical

Each of these students was successful in gaining a place within the Head Start program after completing structured workplace learning in their chosen field, going through the Head Start interview process and searching for and securing a role with their respective employer. Each week they attend school (as their goal is to complete VCE), and they attend either VET through school or Trade TAFE and work as an apprentice. Their ability to transition from student to employee during the week is commendable and we wish them all the best of luck in the first year of their school-based apprenticeship!
