NAPLAN Legends!

Over the past couple of weeks, our students have been putting their best foot forward as they tackled their NAPLAN assessments. Regardless of the results, we couldn’t be prouder of the dedication, perseverance and effort each student demonstrated. Testing can be a challenging experience, but our students approached it with a positive mindset and a determination to do their best. Well-done, Year 5!

Literacy

Exploring Perspective and Persuasion

Perspective was the key focus in our literacy rotations over the past fortnight. Each class explored how a story can completely change depending on the point of view being told:

  • Miss Vincent: The Day the Crayons Quit – A colourful exploration of how neglected crayons might feel!

  • Mr Stanbrook: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs – A fresh take on a classic tale, told from the wolf’s point of view.

  • Mrs Morecroft: The Recess Queen – A look at playground dynamics and how perspective shapes our understanding of relationships.

Through these texts, students gained insight into how perspective can shape storytelling, opinions and even emotions.

In addition, we have dived into the world of persuasive writing, exploring the structure and language techniques that make arguments more convincing. Students then put their learning into practice by completing a persuasive Learning Task—and they did an outstanding job crafting arguments to sway their audience. We may have a few future debaters and politicians in the making!

Inquiry

Mastering Canva for Creative Expression

As part of our Who We Are inquiry unit, students were introduced to Canva, an exciting digital tool for creating visually engaging posters. This new skill will allow them to express their learning in a creative and professional way across various subjects.

It was fantastic to see students experimenting with design, colour and layout to effectively communicate their ideas. Expect some eye-catching posters coming home soon

Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships

As part of our ongoing commitment to social and emotional learning, students explored Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships. They examined various real-life scenarios and worked together to decide whether the situation was something they could handle independently, seek help from a friend, or involve an adult. These discussions helped students build confidence in their decision-making skills and reinforced the importance of looking out for one another.

Sport: Teamwork in Action!

Our Year 5 students have been making us proud on the sports field as they compete against other schools in Summer Sports. With a few double headers in the mix, our students have shown resilience, teamwork and fantastic sportsmanship. Whether winning or learning from challenges, they have been representing our school with pride, supporting one another and displaying a great sense of fair play. Keep up the great work, athletes!

A Musical Surprise: Harp’s a Breeze!

We were thrilled to welcome Chris from Harp’s a Breeze, who introduced students to the magical world of the harmonica! Chris’ engaging presentation had everyone captivated, and the excitement in the room was contagious. Best of all, each student was given their very own harmonica to take home, ensuring the fun (and music!) continues beyond the classroom. Both students and teachers had an absolute blast!

It’s been a fantastic few weeks in Year 5 and we can’t wait to see what the next fortnight brings. Thank you for your ongoing support in your child's learning journey!
