Phonics Plus Program
Overview for Prep Students
The Prep students have enthusiastically engaged with our Phonics Plus program, which offers a comprehensive and dynamic approach to reading instruction. This program utilizes an evidence-based systematic synthetic phonics method, ensuring that children acquire foundational reading skills effectively.
The Phonics Plus resources feature an extensive scope and sequence plan that guides students through their learning journey. Initially, they explore simple sound-letter relationships, gradually advancing to more intricate letter combinations essential for both reading and spelling.
Prep teachers benefit from a wonderful collection of Phonics Plus lesson plans, designed to incorporate 25 minutes of direct and explicit phonics instruction each day. These lesson plans are crafted by experienced educators and school leaders, ensuring they meet the diverse needs of learners.
These innovative classroom resources are instrumental in delivering high-quality teaching across all schools, based on solid evidence and research. This method significantly aids young primary school students in developing critical early reading skills, laying a strong foundation for their future literacy success.

Harmony/Neurodiversity Week
Elmer the Elephant
This week, as part of Harmony/Neurodiversity Week, the Prep students had a wonderful time reading the story of Elmer the Elephant. Through this beloved tale, which celebrates individuality and embracing differences, students decorated their own elephants.
Just like Elmer, who learns to appreciate his unique colourful patches, our students expressed their creativity by designing elephants that reflected their own personalities, using bright colours, fun patterns, and even some metallic squares.
This activity allowed them to explore the importance of celebrating diversity and how we are all special in our own way.
The beautiful elephants will be proudly displayed around the school as a reminder of the importance of inclusion and supporting one another’s differences.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect with the theme of neurodiversity while having fun and being creative.
We are so proud of their efforts and creativity during this special week!
Well done Preppies!
