Excursion to Cooper’s Settlement
On Tuesday 26th March, as part of our inquiry unit on Changes to Life - Past and Present, Year 1 students experienced life in the early 1900s, with an excursion to Cooper's Settlement at Bundoora Park. We deep dived into all things olden days.
Below are some recounts of our day:
- Yesterday the Year 1 students went to Cooper’s Settlement. We did lots of activities, but my favourite was seeing the kangaroos and playing dead fish. ~ Lani, 1C
- Yesterday the Year 1 students went to Cooper’s Settlement. I loved the very very cute baby kangaroos. I loved writing with the pen. I had the best day ever. ~ Ava, 1C
- Next, we churned the milk into butter. Also, we did pretend washing and fake vacuuming. The vacuum was an old vacuum. It didn’t have electricity, so you had to push it around with your hands! ~ Haris, 1A
- Finally we went to an old classroom. Everything was different! We wrote in cursive writing and a calligraphy pen with ink. The teacher was very strict! ~ Cyril, 1A
- We went to the old printing room. We got to print our initials! I had fun! ~ Floss, 1A
- We went on Evie, the electric bus. I saw kangaroos and animals. ~ Aina, 1B
- We went to an old school. There was a dunce's hat. We wrote with ink pens. ~ Edda, 1B
- We went to the old school and used quills with ink to write. Then we played old fashioned games. Later we went to an old house and learnt how to make milk into butter and washed clothes on a washboard. ~ Isabella U, 1B
