Year 11 Modern History
This semester we have been studying World War l, focusing on how the conflict in Europe became a global war. As part of this, they had to conduct a site study of the trenches on the Western Front. In class, they used the furniture to construct British and German trenches, examining the difference in construction and the conditions that soldiers from both sides were living and fighting in. They were also able to sample some of the finest food the war had to offer: tinned beef, dry crackers and Anzac biscuits.
Year 12 Ancient History
This semester they have been studying Julius Caesar and the Fall of the Roman Republic. As part of this, they have to develop an understanding of the key figures that caused the Republic to become the Empire. To help with this, they have been creating a "murder board" of all the key figures (including Caesar, Mark Antony and Cleopatra), how they all related to each other and how each one of them had a role in the "murder" of the Roman Republic.
The have also being playing a game called "Secret Caesar", looking at how Roman politics worked during the 1st Century BCE. In the game, one person is given the role of Caesar and tries to pass laws to become a dictator, while the other players have to guess who Caesar is and stop him. If they don't stop him, Caesar takes over and becomes the Emperor.
Year 9 English
Year 9 students dive into the world of Shakespeare as they bring 'The Balcony Scene' from Romeo and Juliet to life through a roleplaying activity. With a genuine approach; historically, it was a ‘no girls allowed’ policy on stage, our two young gentlemen captivated the audience at the makeshift Globe Theatre with the timeless language of love. It is inspiring to watch their engagement as they explore the richness of this classic story!
