Week 2, Term 2

Performing Arts

All students will be listening to and exploring music related to ANZAC Day. Students have also been learning a song to perform at the ANZAC ceremony this Wednesday. 

 

Prep

Students will spend most of this lesson exploring music and instruments related to ANZAC Day. They will watch videos, listen and use their bodies and movement to demonstrate the feeling of the music they are experiencing. 

 

Grade 1 and 2

Grade 1 students will refresh their knowledge on pitch (high and low sounds) from last term. They will also be introduced to the idea of a 'pitch map' as an informal way to notate the way sounds move up and down. 

Grade 2 students will be exploring melody by using tuned percussion instruments. They will use their understanding of melody to learn about and perform compsoitions. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will learn about the idea of 'feel' in music. They will explore 'Funk' music, including it's cultural and historical significance. They will experience 'Funk' through listening, singing and moving. 

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students will be introduced to a song writing task. They will learn about chords and then use chords to create their own chord circle/progression.

AUSLAN

Prep

Prep students will be introduced to the Auslan signs for numbers between 1 and 5. They will use their knowledge of number and colour signs to follow signed instructions to complete a ‘Colour by Number.’

 

Grade 1 and 2

Grade 1 and 2 students will be revising and learning new signs for various animals. They will explore the signs for pets we have at home. This week they will be learning how to sign ‘Do you have pets?’ and then respond to that question.

 

Grade 3 and 4

Grade 3 and 4 students revise their knowledge of colour signs. They will also be introduced to the signs for various shapes. This knowledge will be used to follow basic instructions in Auslan to create a simple picture. 

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students have been exploring the signs used to describe people. They will consolidate their understanding and application of these signs through playing the game ‘Guess Who?’

Visual Arts

Prep

Students will be practising the order of rainbow colours and creating a pastel and watercolour painting. They will also be wrapping their Mother’s Day present to take home.

 

Grade 1

Students will be missing primary colours to create secondary colours to be used a background for their bug creation.

 

Grade 2

Students will be creating a Pete Cromer inspired painted paper collage of a mother hen and her eggs for a special gift. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will be using a window squeegee to create a painted design on cardboard to be made into a vase next week. They will also make some pipe-cleaner flowers to place inside.

 

Grade 5

Students will be cutting their painted leather into shapes and attaching jump rings between them to create earrings or a keychain for someone special. 

 

Grade 6

Students will finishing off their tonal shell drawing and creating some gum leaves and pom poms to decorate a wreath for our Anzac Day ceremony.
