DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA
Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
🌱 LITERACY
This week in Reading, we will focus on identifying the author’s purpose and exploring themes related to ANZAC Day. Our mentor text, Alfred’s War by Rachel Bin Salleh, will be experienced through different formats to deepen students’ understanding of how authors convey meaning and highlight important messages. Students will also create an ANZAC Day Flip Book, reflecting on key ideas, vocabulary, and historical significance throughout the week.
This week in Writing, we will be learning how to develop arguments to support opinions in persuasive texts. Students will practise stating their opinions clearly and using strong reasons and evidence to convince their audience. Where possible, links will be made to ANZAC Day themes to help students connect their writing to real-world topics.
You can talk about a fun opinion topic at home and encourage your child to give reasons to support their ideas. Ask your child to show you their ANZAC Day Flip Book and explain something they have learned.
🌱 NUMERACY
This week in Mathematics, we are learning about 2D and 3D shapes and how they can move through flips, slides, and turns. Students will explore how to identify and describe angles in shapes and everyday objects. They will also begin measuring angles using informal tools, such as an angle wedge, to build their understanding.
At home, you can look for 3D shapes in everyday objects and talk about how they could flip, slide, or turn. You can also spot angles around the house and estimate whether they are bigger or smaller than a right angle.
🌱 CBL
This week in Challenge Based Learning, we are introducing our Term Two Big Idea: Diversity. Students will be introduced to the essential question, guiding questions, and the challenge, and will share their thoughts and wonderings after viewing a tuning-in video. Each class will work together to create a shared definition of what diversity means to them.
At home, you can discuss what diversity means and talk about the different ways people can be unique. Encourage your child to notice and celebrate the diverse strengths and backgrounds of people in your family and community..
Wellbeing
This week in Wellbeing, students will attend a Cyber Safety incursion focused on empowering them to make safe and responsible decisions online. The program will teach both technical skills and social awareness to help students navigate the digital world safely. In addition, we will introduce a whole-school token reward system as part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) program, which encourages positive behaviour and helps build a supportive school community. This initiative aims to strengthen students' understanding of responsible behaviour while promoting kindness and respect within the school environment.
