Respectful Relationships: Emotional Literacy
This week, Foundation students explored different emotions and how we can look for clues in people’s facial expressions and body language to identify different emotions.
We read a picture story book, about a little girl who experiences a bit of a roller coaster of emotions throughout the story as she works to solve a problem she is experiencing.
Students also practised doing circle time, which is where we establish a safe and respectful space to share our ideas or experiences, one at a time. Everyone gets to share if they want to and it is ok to pass if you would like. We practise active listening and ensure we are being sensible and respectful to our classmates.
Circle time is one of many ways we can build a trusting and positive classroom community, which helps students feel comfortable and connected.
Circle time addresses two of the High Impact Wellbeing Strategies relating to relationships, as it develops positive peer relationship and positive teacher-student relationships.
The Foundation students did a wonderful job sharing their understanding of an emotion through drawing.
