Supporting Your Child’s Reflection on Term 1

Hi families,

As we approach the end of Term 1, it’s the perfect opportunity for you to help children pause and reflect on how they’ve been managing their wellbeing over the past 9 weeks. School life can be full of challenges, whether it’s adjusting to new routines, staying on top of schoolwork, or balancing different responsibilities. Encouraging children to take care of their mental and physical health is essential, and there are simple ways you can support them in feeling their best.

Supporting Wellbeing at Home

When life gets busy, it can be easy for children to forget about their wellbeing. However, just like doing homework or learning a new skill, taking care of themselves is just as important. A child who looks after their wellbeing is better able to focus, feel happy, and enjoy their time at school. Here are a few ways you can help your child incorporate self-care into their routine as Term 1 comes to a close:

  • Encourage Breaks: Remind your child to take breaks during the school day. Whether it’s stepping outside for a few minutes of fresh air, reading a book, or having a chat with a friend, these little moments of relaxation can help them feel refreshed and ready to keep going.
  • Promote Physical Activity: Physical activity is a great way for children to feel both mentally and physically good. Encourage them to keep active during break times, take a walk, or even just climb some of our play equiptment. It’s a great mood booster and can help with their overall wellbeing.
  • Talk About Seeking Support: It’s important for children to know that it’s okay to ask for help when they’re feeling overwhelmed. Whether it’s talking to an adult at school, home, or even a trusted friend, encourage your child to reach out for support if they need it. Let them know they’re never alone and it’s always okay to share their feelings.

Reflecting on Achievements

As we near the end of Term 1, it’s a great time for children to think about everything they’ve accomplished, no matter how big or small. Maybe they’ve learned something new, made a new friend, or stepped out of their comfort zone. Help them to recognise and celebrate their progress over the past few months!

Remember, self-care isn’t just about taking breaks or staying active — it’s also about being kind to themselves and acknowledging their achievements. Encourage your child to be proud of what they’ve done and how far they’ve come this term.

As we wrap up Term 1, let’s work together to support our children in continuing to take care of their wellbeing. Remind them to stay positive, be proud of themselves, and keep looking after their mental and physical health.

I hope these last two weeks of term are enjoyable and that you and your family enjoy a well-deserved break!
