Music

As we head into the end of Term One, the Music Department is getting into full swing.  We showcased our VCE/VET students during a lunchtime performance on the Leaf outdoor stage, featuring Keenan Cruz,  Aiden Ryan, Lachlan Marsh and Abby Griebenow. The following week saw the same venue feature our emerging Concert Band under the leadership of the fabulous Mr Tom Cousin.

Upcoming Performance Opportunities

The Sale Eisteddfod is taking place in the week starting the 19th of May, and we have several choirs, ensembles and soloists entered.  To prepare them, and others, for the world of performing, we are holding our first after school concert, planned for Thursday 15th May, at 5pm in St Mary’s Hall. All welcome!

We are also really pleased that there are more performance opportunities at school this year, with more frequent assemblies providing space to showcase our students’ talents.  It is also wonderful that present and past students are performing in the wider community: most notably Emily Nock at the Push concert in Stratford on the weekend along with Dane Nicholls, Mae McCubbin and Olivia Lay.  Keenan Cruz and Aiden Ryan have also been busking very profitably.

Rehearsals are going well for our Senior Production, We Will Rock You, which will be staged at The Wedge on the 20th and 21st of May.  Keep an eye out for promotional materials which will appearing from the beginning of Term Two.

Places available

It is not too late to join in the activities in the Music Department – we have new members joining all through the year!  We would particularly like more flautists, and violinists and cellists are always welcome.  There is also one vacancy for acoustic double bass.  Unfortunately, some instruments are fully booked, but a waiting list exists, and in the meantime you could always try a second choice.  Use the online application form or see Ms Roffe, or any of our other music teachers if you would like to start learning an instrument.  All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to practice regularly.

Ensembles

Playing music in an ensemble is an essential part of learning your instrument, and for most students the element that they get the most pleasure from.  Joining a suitable ensemble is therefore a compulsory part of the College Instrumental Program.  Our ensembles are not limited to those learning an instrument at school, however. If you have an interest in playing in one of our ensembles or singing in one of our choirs just let us know.  Currently rehearsals take place at lunchtimes for most ensembles, however, Show Choir also rehearses after school from 3:30pm – 5pm on Thursdays.

Thank you all for your continued support of Music at Catholic College Sale.
