Principal's Report

Issue No 8 - 2 April 2025

Term 1 - Week 10

Principal’s Report

As Term 1 ends and we prepare to celebrate the joy of Easter, we take a moment to reflect on this season of renewal and gratitude. Our students have embraced countless opportunities for learning and growth, both academically and spiritually, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and the wider community for their encouragement and commitment. I wish everyone a restful, joyful break and a blessed Easter filled with peace and hope.

Caritas Ks

A heartfelt thank you to all the students, staff, and families who joined us at Lake Weeroona for our Caritas K's event. It was amazing to see so many of our community out raising awareness and walking in solidarity with those who walk daily for clean water.

Knowledge Society - Classroom Mastery

Yesterday, our staff had the pleasure of hosting Sara Wiggins from Classroom Mastery, along with colleagues from St Therese’s Kennington, St Monica’s Kangaroo Flat, and St Joseph’s Rochester. The day was dedicated to enhancing our understanding of student behaviour through the lens of neuroscience, youth studies, trauma-informed practices, and positive psychology. We explored strategies for teaching the key elements of a positive learning culture - beliefs, values, norms, routines, and rules - and practiced the routines and teacher skills essential for effective classroom management.

While some of these concepts may be familiar to our staff, we are excited to deepen our understanding and continue working collaboratively to create engaging and supportive learning environments.

Staff Professional Learning

Our staff will be participating in an intensive professional learning experience, led by Dr. Jared Cooney-Horvarth, an expert in the science of learning on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th April. This will be an invaluable opportunity to deepen our understanding of student learning and ensure we continue providing the best support for our students’ educational journeys.

Principal Award

Congratulations to Harvey Steel who received a Principal's award on Monday.  Harvey was nominated by Mrs House for his positive approach to the workshops.

Acknowledgement from Lisa Chesters

On Monday our grade 6 students received a certificate from Lisa acknowledging their participation in the grade 6 camp to Canberra.

School Cross Country

On Friday 2nd May our students will be participating in the School Cross Country.  This whole school event will be held at Strathdale Park Ovals from approximately 9:00 am – 12:30 pm.  The event aims to encourage students to try their personal best, and to practise persistence and resilience. Our school cross country is also a qualification event for Grade 3-6 students for Division Cross Country. The top 8-10 competitors in each Gr 3-6 age group will automatically qualify for the Division event to be held later in the term.

Final Liturgy & End of Term

School term finishes this Friday 4 April at 2:15 pm. Preceding the end of term our students will participate in a final liturgy in the hall at 1:45 pm and draw the Easter Raffle.

Easter Egg Raffle

On the final day of Term 1, we will conduct the drawing for our Easter raffle. Please ensure that you return your raffle tickets by next Friday (extra tickets are available at the office). We are pleased to see a generous response in donations to enhance our prize offerings.

Containers for the collection of eggs, bunnies, and other items are available in each room, and these items will be assembled into hampers that will serve as the raffle prizes. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Parents and Friends Association for organising this fundraiser.

School Photos

School Photo Day will be held on Wednesday 30th April from 9 am.  On this day students need to wear full summer uniform - no sports uniform to be worn.
