Digital Technology News
Two weeks ago, many families from our school watched a live webinar from Martin and Carly from Inform and Empower. It was amazing to see that over 100 adults from our school community actively engaged, hearing their vital message on raising children in today's digital world.
Key takeaways from the session included:
Green Time vs. Screen Time: Emphasising the importance of balancing screen time with essential "green time" activities like mindfulness, physical activity, outdoor play, social interaction, unstructured play, and reading.
Informed Game Choices: Highlighting the value of resources like Common Sense Media website for evaluating the suitability of games and devices.
Co-Playing for Understanding: Encouraging parents to play video games alongside their children to gain firsthand insight and make informed decisions.
Navigating Online Privacy: Underscoring the significant differences between online and solo gameplay, particularly regarding privacy settings on platforms like Roblox.
Shared Space Supervision: Advocating for device usage in communal areas rather than private bedrooms.
If you were unable to attend the live webinar or missed the replay registration, please email lmangani@smdplaverton.catholic.edu.au, and I will gladly provide you with a link to the recording.
