Student Leaders

This week we are going to be hearing from our student leaders as part of our Wellbeing News. Our student leaders have been working hard to meet every week and plan, organise and implement lots of ideas for our school. Since the Grade 5 / 6 students have recently returned from their school camp, some of the student leaders have asked to share their wonderful experiences with our school community. We hope you enjoy hearing from our students this fortnight.

Camp

A few days ago the Grade 5 and 6’s went on an unforgettable camping trip to Don Bosco, which was filled with smiles, laughs and happiness. It was so good that there were never boring or sad moments, all were enjoyable moments. There was always something new to explore. It's our last, but best school camp as Grade 6 students.

On the first day, we also had a free swim at the beach. We were lucky that the beach was so close to us. The water is as clear as glass but freezing at first. We did some beach games like making a tunnel in the sand for the tennis ball to roll through towards the water without pushing it and drip, drip, splash where it is like duck, duck, goose but instead you drip or splash someone with water. After getting out of the water I wanted to play in the sand for a bit and wanted to make a giant hole with my friends. We made the hole so deep that the sand at the bottom of the hole was wet and we were able to get natural water from the bottom of the hole. It was so fun  just chilling with my friends and was something I will be forever grateful for.

One of my favorite things at Don Bosco camp was stand up paddle boarding. It was pretty easy to get the hang of it. My partner fell off a few times and it felt so good with the refreshing water. In the middle of the session, me and my partner achieved our success criteria and we stood up on the paddle board. The instructor also told us that when we get the hang of it, we can try doing tricks. So me and my partner tried jumping on the paddle board while we were standing up. We achieved it but that was also one of the times we fell off our paddle board. The boat was kind of like a surfboard and we used kayak paddles. So stand up paddle boarding was kind of a mix of both.

The food was also nice there. For breakfast for both days we had cereal and toast.  Lunch was so good, we had burgers with chicken tenders as the meat and toppings like beetroot, cheese, lettuce and pineapple. The sauces were tomato, barbeque, mustard and sweet chilli. and we could choose what we wanted inside of it. Lunch for the second day was a wrap. Dinner was delicious. The first day we had chicken schnitzel with fries. For the second day it was curry night which was butter chicken and naan. And at the end we also got samosas. For dessert on the first day, it was Ice Cream. All the food was so yummy.

Another one of my camp highlights was with the disco on the first night, it was amazing. The disco was like a huge party. Everyone was happy smiling ear to ear, dancing like never before and singing like they never have. I was screaming and singing at the end of the disco. My jaw hurt from smiling so much. We danced to songs like fe!n, california girls, riptide and many more. One more memorable moment from camp was the amazing movie Mighty Ducks, it was  about a couple of kids who loved to play hockey and then they got an amazing coach. It had everything from an interesting plot to amazing characters, everything was spot on and the best part was the screaming, as the main characters would play a match everyone would passionately cheer them on,  when they would win everyone would erupt in applause it was spectacular.

As I woke up the next morning and started to pack, I felt a bit sad as this was my last camp with my friends from primary school and my last camp of primary school. Then the bus arrived,  as I began getting on the bus. Suddenly I became very grateful for getting such an amazing opportunity. - Tanish, Ukarsh, Lucas (Student Leaders)

Sustainability News:

The waste warriors have been doing really well with taking out bins to the correct areas and there is improvement in what goes in which bin. But still, some bins have things like chip packets and tissues inside of the wrong bins. It is definitely better than the first few weeks though. Thank you to everyone who has made an effort to put their rubbish into the correct bins, your help is greatly appreciated! We have made posters to help each grade remember what to put in each bin! - Erika  & Gabrielle (Student Leaders)
