WELCOME TO TERM 2
Welcome back, staff, students, parents and the wider Kyabram P-12 College community! We’re excited for another great term ahead in the College Resource Library, with plenty of engaging activities and events already underway. We’ve hit the ground running, welcoming back our regular library borrowing classes for Prep to Year 9, and it's been wonderful to see students diving into new books and exploring our collection once again.
Our popular lunchtime clubs—Creators Club, Makerspace Club and Comic Club—are also back for Term 2, offering fun and creative opportunities for students to enjoy the library in new ways. A warm welcome to our new Term 2 Library Monitors, who are already doing a fantastic job in helping to keep our space organised and running smoothly.
Looking ahead, we’re preparing to help celebrate some exciting college events including Inclusion and Diversity Day, Education Week, and National Simultaneous Storytime. We’re also looking forward to welcoming families into the library during the upcoming College Open Night on Wednesday 8 May, a wonderful opportunity to showcase all that’s happening in our vibrant library space.
We look forward to a fantastic Term 2 of reading, creating and connecting in the library!
TERM 2 LIBRARY MONITORS
We would like to announce our Term 2 Library Monitors for 2025, congratulations to Christine E (5/6), Younis B (3/4) and Jaxon M (3/4). We look forward to working together with these students this term.
This program is facilitated by library staff and gives students from Grade 3 to Year 12 an opportunity at an extracurricular leadership role within the college. Library Monitors are responsible for a range of roles within the library space, including shelving books, keeping the space tidy, assisting with displays, brainstorming new programs with staff, and so much more.
EDUCATION WEEK IN THE LIBRARY
Education Week is in full swing at the College Resource Library! We're celebrating with a jam-packed week of activities, storytimes, and cultural exploration. Students are enjoying Simultaneous Storytime featuring Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel, creating truck origami, and joining in lunchtime Makerspace and Creators Club crafts—including our Collaborative Cultures Puzzle and Tinker the Cat craft!
Throughout the week, we’re also featuring a “Celebration of Cultures” book display, Story Stones activities, a First Nations Show and Tell with Jess Stines, and interactive storytelling using Discussion Dice. It’s a week of learning, creativity, and connection—come join the fun in the library!
SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME
The Kyabram P-12 College Resource Library is thrilled to participate in this year's National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), a nationwide event coordinated by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). On Wednesday, 21 May at 12:00pm AEST, students across Australia will simultaneously read The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell.
The Truck Cat is a heartwarming tale that explores themes of belonging, connection, and the journey of finding home. In the lead-up to NSS, our library will host a week of engaging activities, including themed displays and storytime sessions during library classes. These events aim to foster a love for reading and highlight the importance of storytelling in our community.
Join us in celebrating the joy of reading and the power of shared stories during this special event!
PREP INFORMATION NIGHT - May 12th
The Resource Library will also have a display set up in the P-2 (Yalka building) for Prep Information Night on May 12th. Our theme is the National Simultaneous Storytime text "Truck Cat' by Deborah Frenkel.
MONTHLY AUTHOR FOCUS - AARON BLABEY
Each month, the college library will highlight a significant author for students to explore. May 2025 will highlight Aaron Blabey as our chosen author. The library will investigate his well-loved Pig the Pug and Bad Guys books, diving into his storytelling and fiction writing.
