Library News

We can look back at Term 2 and reflect on some of our library activities and events.

To commemorate ANZAC Day in April, the library team promoted a display of novels and resources around Australians at war and students enjoyed the poppy making workshop we ran at lunchtime. Students were keen to make a poppy as well as selecting from the ANZAC Day themed book display.

In May, as part the IDAHOBIT celebrations, the library staff organized for non-binary author and former TLSC student, Quinton Li, to speak in the library about the publication of their two novels Tell me how it ends and Chrysalis and Requiem. Approximately forty Interested students signed up to attend the lunchtime presentation and were impressed with Quinton’s address and the process they used to become a published author. Their books are available for loan from the library.

In early June, students in the library were treated to a live music performance by some of the college’s talented voice students. It was a great way to bring in the long weekend. Thanks go to Mrs. Santopietro for supporting our voice students to perform so well in our library.

We are excited to announce that, Australian YA author, Kate Constable will be presenting to all Year 8 students on Wednesday July 24th. Kate is the author of the award-winning novel Crow Country. Crow country is the set text for all Year 8 English students, and it is an amazing opportunity to gain insights from the author of the book the students are studying. Visit the library to select more of her fabulous and varied novels to read.

To celebrate the end of term, the TLSC Stage Band will be performing at lunchtime in the library, and we look forward to the live music performance featuring our talented music students. Our thanks go to Mr. Vasilevski and Mr. Latomanski for supporting the band to perform in the library.

Students are reminded that the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is happening again! With the holidays around the corner and lots of available time for reading, any student who would like to participate in the challenge this year is reminded that they can access the VPRC website from the star icon on Compass using their EDUPASS login credentials. Please see a library staff member if you require more information.

Don’t forget that the library is open before school, recess, lunchtime and after school until 4:30 Monday to Thursday and 4:00pm on a Friday.  Please encourage your students to use this time, to pop into the library for a great book recommendation, ICT question, research guidance or just to ‘hang out’ in our fun, safe and inclusive environment.
