Foundation 

The focus of our maths for the last two weeks has been addition. The children have learnt that when two groups of objects are joined together, you find the total. We have said that adding is more and subtracting is less. 

The children have represented addition stories using counters and numerals. This week we played some games to reinforce the concept. 'Shake and Spill' and 'Blockbuster' involve adding the amounts on two dice to find the total, and a domino match involved adding the two dot pictures on a domino to find the total.  We have been emphasising the count-on strategy where we get the biggest number representation in our heads and count on the smaller one so we don't have to count every dot.

The children are continually improving their addition skills.
