Hello There!

It’s been another fantastic term in the Music Room. The Year 5 and 6 students wrapped up their guitar studies with a portfolio task that involved them playing a chord progression and then used some of their guitar knowledge to collaborate with fellow students using a variety of instruments to create a cover version of either ‘Three Little Birds’ or ‘Shake it Off’. The Year 3 and 4 students completed a similar portfolio task using the ukulele, where they created mini-band cover versions of either ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ or ‘Riptide’.

Our Foundation, Year 1 and 2 students completed their portfolio tasks, assessing their knowledge of and ability to play several rhythmic ostinatos and are now experimenting with tuned percussion instruments (xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels) to further develop their musical knowledge and skills.

All year levels have used the excellent Music Education applications we have on our iPads, such as Rhythm Dictation, Staff Wars and GarageBand to further develop their knowledge of a variety of musical concepts.

The Senior and Junior Choirs have been performing at assemblies and are thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to share their love of music with an audience. The Senior Choir also performed on Open Night, where they sang 3 of their favourite songs in front of a packed-out audience in the Wentworth Building. We were lucky enough to have Mel from Year 6 perform on the piano at assembly and plan to invite more of our students to share their musical talent at future assemblies.

We are all looking forward to the wonderful music incursion we have organised for the last week of Term 2, on Tuesday 25th June. As part of our World Music Day celebrations, we have the amazing African performers ‘Wala’ visiting the school.

Thanks,
