Learning and Teaching
LS1 Pastoral Care Action Team Building on a proud tradition at SFS
Our LS1 students have been creating a set of 6 programs that will enhance PERMAH (positive feelings, engagement in life, relationship-building, meaning, accomplishment and health) for our Juniors.
The 12 qualities of every SFS Student:
- Respectful of others’ differences
- Resilient
- A good friend
- Proud of their school
- Kind to all
- Committed to learning
- Does not leave you by yourself
- Thoughtful before making decisions
- Engages in physical exercise
- Understands social cues and is well mannered
- Resolves conflict peacefully
- Says hello and greets you with
Using our school’s vision statement and PBL values as the foundation, Seniors are
working on implementing traditions and leaving a legacy by fostering 12 interpersonal qualities that they believe every SFS student must have by the time they finish Year 6.
The cross-age interaction enables senior students to teach life skills to juniors by practicing the 12 qualities through classroom games, storytelling, reading circles, music and dancing. The programs provide valuable mentoring for younger students and allow older students to act as role models and develop leadership skills. It also helps to foster inclusiveness and create additional opportunities for students to be known by peers of all ages throughout the school community.
The opportunity to interact and participate with other students in the school will hopefully, cement students’ feelings of connectedness to their school community. – an important factor to the healthy growth and development of young people.
We hope that these programs can continue into life after SFS students graduate so that every student may feel encouraged to stay connected and give back to their school by being involved with current students. Students feel excited with the possibility to come back and share their experiences of Secondary school like and beyond.
To date, we have hosted 2 junior home groups, however, every home group will receive an invitation to join us on alternate Monday afternoons next term. Every other week will be used by our team to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the program and make changes to keep our programs fresh and easy to follow for future students to build upon.

We will keep a ladder for the House Competitions throughout the year.
MELBOURNE PLAYERS VISIT – SENIORS
We had a group of very excited Senior students on Monday when the Melbourne players visited. We had Matthew Jefferson, Daniel Turner, Marty Hore and Ben Brown from the Melbourne Football Club.
Students asked fantastic questions and were very impressive during the session, both when asking questions and when getting signatures. Our students are always well behaved and enthusiastic when we have guests and we are very proud of them.
Jackson from AFL, who escorted the players, emailed me and said. “Thanks again for yesterday's Melbourne FC Player Appearances! The boys where absolutely wrapped with how well behaved all the kids were and with all the great questions that everyone asked so well done again!”
GRADE 5/6 RESUSCITATE A MATE PROGRAM
Grade 5/6 students completed the Resuscitate a Mate Program run by Lifesaving Victoria today, which built on the knowledge they gained last week in their St John First Aid in Schools Program.
They learnt about safety when swimming in water and basic CPR skills which they practised on the mannequins that were brought in.
We would like to than Andrew, who is the Diversity and Inclusion Delivery Officer from Lifesaving Victoria, for coming in and providing the Resuscitate a Mate Program for our students. They thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt such important life skills.

In Term 3 we will have Auskick offered at our school on Wednesdays from 3.30 pm - 4.30 pm starting Wednesday July 31st through to Wednesday August 28th. All levels are welcome to attend the 5 Auskick sessions. Parents will need to register their child via the QR code below. The cost of the 5 clinics is only $50 which includes the five Auskick sessions, a football and a pump.
To give students a taste of the Auskick clinics, Jackson from AFL will be coming to school to run free clinics for all the students early in Term 3. Further information for these clinics will be provided via Operoo shortly.
Please take advantage of this great opportunity where SFS becomes an Auskick Centre for only SFS students.
