What does it mean to be a part of Riversdale?

To Hamish and I being a part of Riversdale and being the Captains of such an awesome House is a great honour and pleasure. The people within the House make it so much better with their kindness and willing ability to do anything, always putting their best foot forward. We believe that it means to always help those in need, encouraging each other, providing a community for people to be themselves and to feel welcome, and the seniors always being a light for the juniors helping them in any way possible, to be someone for them to look up to. Being able to support each other with all that comes and getting through it together. Our homerooms are always filled with smiles and laughs in the morning, making the start of each day better, socialising with the people that you have come to care about like a little family in one big family.

Recent Events in Riversdale

Recently, on Friday the 14th of this month we celebrated Sacred Heart Day. It was a time to enjoy not only an amazing mass but also to have fun participating in many games such as soccer and netball within our homerooms. The Riversdale house spirit was well and truly alive on this day with many students getting involved in the day and having a great time together with fellow students of all ages within their homeroom groups. Miss Smith, Riversdale 05 said, “Riversdale's house spirit really came alive on Sacred Heart Day. In my homeroom in particular I got to witness students of all year levels and athletic abilities joining in and participating in all the games put on in the afternoon. Students were cheering each other on and working together and just generally having a lot of fun.”

As captains of Riversdale, we were able to experience this excitement firsthand, not only through participation in homeroom games with our own homerooms but also through the privilege we had to serve all of Riversdale lunch on the day.

Furthermore, despite the poor weather conditions faced on the day of our Athletics Carnival, the house spirit remained alive as a result of everyone’s amazing participation in our most recent house meeting. A ‘kahoot’ produced by Millie P Year 12 brought the house together, creating a slight competitive rivalry between the homerooms with Mrs Binks Riversdale 03 taking the win. The meeting was topped off with a rehearsal of the ‘Riversdale Chant’ lead by a boisterous group of year 7’s who happily embraced the Riversdale spirit, before the rest of the house joined in to belt out the rest of the song. The Riversdale spirit was truly illuminated on both occasions reminding everyone what it means to be a part of mighty, mighty Riversdale.
