Welcome to Season TWO, episode 3 of...

 THE BUZZ at Leighland

On today's episode, we take you on a journey exploring music at Leighland. Come to both the Burnie and Ulverstone campuses to hear the vision of music in action through interviews with some of our music staff.

Our music team do such an amazing job of inspiring our students and nurturing them through music experiences from Kinder through to college. So put the kettle on, sit down and enjoy episode 3 of The Buzz.

A Message from our Child Safety Officers

As a school community, we are committed to fostering an environment where our students feel safe, valued and empowered to share their thoughts and concerns. We are excited to share with you a new initiative aimed at enhancing child safety and communication within our school community!

The Feedback Box

This is a new avenue for students to share their thoughts, ideas and concerns with us. There will be two Feedback Boxes located at the Ulverstone Campus; one in the high school Wellbeing Space, and the other in the primary school at the Head of Primary Office.

The Feedback Box at the Burnie Campus will be allocated near Mrs Polden’s office. These locked Feedback Boxes serve as a safe way for students to communicate directly with our school staff. Whether it’s a suggestion for improving the school in some way, a concern, or an idea for a fun school event, we want to hear from our students. By providing a designated space for feedback, we hope to empower our students to take an active role in shaping their educational experience.

Rest assured, all submissions will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and each message will be carefully reviewed by relevant staff. We believe that every voice matters, and by listening to our students, we can create a school environment that truly reflects their needs and aspirations.

We encourage open communication between students, parents and staff regarding safety concerns. Our doors are always open, and we welcome any feedback or suggestions that may contribute to the betterment of our school.

Thank you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children.

God bless,

Cassie Miles

Child Safety Officer and Co-Head of Primary

New Online Course For Parents: Raising Tech-Healthy Humans

Is your child struggling with focus, social behaviours, or mental health due to technology use? Are you a parent seeking healthy screen-time habits for your child?

We are excited to introduce "Raising Tech-Healthy Humans," an online course for parents by Daniel Sih of Spacemakers, free for families in CEN schools.

Daniel Sih, a TEDx speaker and award-winning author, has created fifteen engaging videos covering essential topics like:

  • How do I encourage healthy screen-time limits?
  • What is the impact of interactive media on my child's developing brain?
  • When and how should I give my child a smartphone?
  • How do I engage in relationship-forming tech-conversations?
  • How is my philosophy of technology a faith-issue?
  • What can I do to get my kids outdoors to have fun?
  • How do we support each other to raise healthy, wholehearted humans as a community?

Jon Madin Music Day workshop

On Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 June, both of our LCS campuses were blessed to host the Jon Madin Music Day workshop. Primary students learned various Marimbas, Echo cellos, Ding boxes and many others. In the span of one day, students at each campus became proficient enough to host their own concerts with a couple of musical arrangements.

Although wacky and fun, the workshops were engaging and innovative; giving students hands-on training and confidence in music theory. Thank you Mr Madin for taking our students on a journey of learning through play.

Year 5/6 Global Leadership Summit

The Year 6’s from both campuses, and Geneva, went to Devonport Christian School where we attended the Global Leadership Summit. We made history as we were the youngest ever people to attend a Summit of this type in the world. We had a great time building catapults and learning about World Vision. We listened to live guest speakers, and we also had a great time with Just Dance. They also provided us with Subway for lunch and a hot chocolate for our recess.

International Day of Play

Last week both of the our campuses celebrated, on separate days, International Day of Play where recognition was given to the pedagogy of play-based learning. Students demonstrated literacy, critical thinking, design thinking and project-based learning skills throughout their classroom times.

Coincidently, on the Ulverstone campus, it happened along with the Wacky Hair Day fundraiser for our Year 5/6 choir performance at the Festival of Voices performance in Hobart; thereby making the day even more interesting and a bit wacky with up-dos galore!

JOIN OUR PRAYER GROUP

As a school, we like to pray for both our school and the wider community.

You are invited to join with others in our community in prayer, each Friday morning at 9.00am. Please sign in at Reception.

You are invited to our free secondary MADE 2024 Exhibition “Snapshots” featuring our Music, Arts, Drama and English programs. It is a collaborative event that includes Design, Technology, the Culinary Arts and Engineering, where Year 7 - 10 students display their learning and developing skill sets. Please come out and enjoy an evening of creative and technological pursuits as you experience how a Leighland Christian School student is MADE.

Kinder 2025

Enrolments for Kinder 2025 are open!  Thank you to those families who have already expressed their interest or commenced the enrolment process.  We ask that any current families who have little ones for Kindy next year, to please reach out as siblings are not automatically enrolled, and enrolment forms are required to be completed for every child.  This will secure your child’s spot and greatly assist our Principals to establish vacancies for new families.

Please contact:

Burnie Campus: Nicole Gillam (PA to Burnie Principal): 6430 9000 or n.gillam@leighland.tas.edu.au

Ulverstone Campus: Lindy Mott (Registrar): 6425 0999 or l.mott@leighland.tas.edu.au

If you know of anyone considering their options for Kinder next year - or any year group, please encourage them to make contact with Nicole or Lindy so that we can set them up with a tour and provide an information pack.  Information packs are also available from the office, if you would like to collect one to pass on.

Nicole and Lindy look forward to hearing from you!
