Careers and Transition
Goals + Knowledge + Skills = Success
It has been another busy term for the CAT faculty with work experience placements, training courses, excursions and many activities organised for our students.
This event involved students travelling to Broadmeadow to the Dressed For Success office to participate in a one day workshop. The workshop covered interview preparation, identifying personal strengths & personal presentation skills. Each student was styled by a professional stylist and walked away with a styled outfit and a set of practical skills towards interviewing for work-experience or employment.
This term has seen many students undertaking work experience placements. Feedback from host employers has been very positive and some students have been offered full time work, apprenticeships or school based apprenticeships.
On June 14, the Careers & Alumni Brunch was held at Francis Greenway High School. The event was attended by many industry partners who have supported our students with various training programs or work experience programs. We also had many Francis Greenway High School Alumni at the event who enjoyed speaking with students about their time at the school and their career pathways.
Brett Pepper was our guest speaker for the day. Brett attended Francis Greenway High School and is now a well renowned chef. He has travelled all over the world, working in the hospitality industry and his story was inspiring for many of our students particularly our hospitality students.
The lunch allowed students to chat to many of the business partners and gave them a better understanding of the training, work and further education options available after secondary school. The event also allowed us to show current students that Francis Greenway High School is a great place to lay the foundations of their dreams and plan for their futures by showcasing the many diverse pathways that previous students of Francis Greenway have followed.
On May 6, the Regional Industry Education Pathway (RIEP) funded the Girls Can Too program. Three of our students Faith Neely, Jemma Farrell and Emily Manning participated in the program and their graduation ceremony was held on Tuesday July 30. The girls enjoyed the program and said that they learnt many valuable skills. Emily Manning was successful in securing a Plant Mechanic Apprenticeship with Westrac following her participation in the program. She will commence in 2025 and we wish her all the best.
I am excited to introduce a new initiative designed to enhance our communication regarding career opportunities and achievements within our school community.
Very soon we will be launching a dedicated FGHS Careers Facebook Group specifically for parents of Years 10, 11, and 12 students. This platform will serve as a central hub for sharing information about upcoming career events, programs, job vacancies, and celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of our students.
We believe that this Facebook group will complement the comprehensive information already available to students through their respective Year Group Microsoft Teams pages. It will provide you with timely updates and insights into the career-focused activities and achievements of your child during their time with us.
Keep an eye on your inbox as instructions on how to join the page will be sent soon.
