This term the wellbeing team has continued to deliver various exciting and inclusive programs around the school. The programs and activities that we offer aim to increase feelings of belonging and provide a space for a range of different students to be themselves and have fun.
Our mindfulness group is run by our Student Support Officers (SSO's) who are trained in Social Work. This group offers students an opportunity to reduce stress and learn how to be mindful in their life. We practice different mindfulness techniques including breathing and gratitude. This group offers a calm space for students to un-wind and alleviate feelings of anxiety and overwhelm.
Rainbow Club is also run by our SSO's. During this group we complete activities and crafts that celebrate pride. This provides a space for students to be who they are and celebrate diversity. This group aims at increasing belonging and providing a safe space for our LGBTQIA students and allies to be.
The Pasifika Cultural Group is run by SLSO Phoenix. This group offers students an opportunity to connect to their culture and learn about others. Through the group, students will complete cultural activities and learn about Pasifika culture. This group is a great chance for students to connect to their own culture and create relationships with other students who share similar interests.
Learning and Support Teacher Mrs Leeson, invites students to the MPC to play Volleyball twice a week. We currently have about 30 students who come together to play in pickup games. It is great to see such a diverse group of students playing together, developing new friendships and getting some exercise during breaks.
Listen to the daily notices to see what day volleyball is running each week.
Seasons for Growth is a small group education program that supports young people to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to understand and respond well to experiences of change, loss and grief. SSO Kate runs this program at times throughout the year. If you have any questions or want your young person to be put on the waiting list for this program please contact the school.
Preventure is an evidence-based prevention program that uses brief, personality-focused workshops to delay substance use and promote mental health among secondary school students. The program aims to equip young people with self-efficacy and cognitive behavioural skills to help them cope with the numerous developmental challenges that adolescents face, such as academic stress, peer pressure, and identity development. A facilitator will attend FGHS and present this program to 2 small groups. If you have any questions about this program or want your young person to participate please contact the school.
The PEERS program is an internationally acclaimed, evidence-based social skills group program for adolescents and young adults with social challenges. It assists young people who want to make and keep friends. Ms Griggs (Learning Support Teacher) is a trained PEERS facilitator. If you have any questions about this program or think it may benefit your young person please contact the school.
Last Term Year 10 Students participated in the Love Bites Program. The program's overall aim is to equip young people with the knowledge needed to have respectful relationships by developing their critical thinking skills and assisting them to problem-solve and communicate effectively. Student Support Officer Kate and Student Support Officer Brianna facilitated Love Bites along with the help of external services. The students were supported by UP&UP to produce a track reflecting their learnings.

Name, Narrate, Navigate (NNN) is a preventive intervention program focused on psycho-education and skill development for young people at increased risk of using violence. It is trauma-informed and culturally responsive, using experiential learning, mindful engagement, and photography to help young people name, narrate, and navigate the experience of violence.
