Term 2 in HSIE was a busy time full of learning. The term included lots of engaging lessons, projects, and discussions to help students think more deeply and understand the world better. Through various activities, students explored complex subjects and improved their analytical skills. It was an exciting time of growth and discovery as we learned about different aspects of society and the environment.
For their second assessment task, Year 11 Business Studies students ran their own small business at school. This practical project provided them with hands-on experience in managing a business, including planning, marketing, and financial management. They developed a business plan, identified their target market, and implemented their strategies in a real-world setting. Through this activity, students gained valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship, as well as developed essential skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. The experience allowed them to apply theoretical knowledge learned in class to practical scenarios, enhancing their understanding of business concepts.
In our study of Ancient China, students explored the rich history and culture of this fascinating civilisation. As part of the unit, they participated in a hands-on activity where they recreated Terracotta Warriors. This activity allowed students to learn about the significance of these ancient sculptures, which were buried with China's first emperor to protect him in the afterlife. By crafting their own versions of the warriors, students gained a deeper understanding of Chinese art, symbolism, and the historical context of the Qin Dynasty.
In Year 10 Commerce, students had an exciting opportunity to run their own businesses for Enterprise Day. This event allowed them to put their entrepreneurial skills into practice, from developing business ideas and creating products to managing sales and customer service. The hands-on experience gave them valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of running a business.
In addition to Enterprise Day, the students went on an excursion to Luna Park to explore real-world examples of marketing and promotion. During the visit, they observed how the amusement park uses various marketing strategies to attract visitors, including advertising, promotions, and branding. This excursion provided a practical look at the application of business concepts in a dynamic and engaging environment, enhancing their understanding of the importance of effective marketing in the business world.
Participating in the Living History incursion about World War I offered Year 10 History students a unique and immersive educational experience. This hands-on learning opportunity allowed students to step back in time and engage directly with historical events through interactive re-enactments, artifacts, and stories from the era. By donning period costumes and interacting with knowledgeable reenactors, students gained a deeper understanding of the complexities and realities of life during the Great War.
Until next time!
