Japanese

This term has provided an array of experiences for our Japanese students.

Healesville High School has once again taken part in the Language World Cup (Education Perfect). The Language World Cup is an event where students can compete at their own ability level. This competition is designed to help boost students’ personal learning journey, engage the students with curriculum-aligned content, and motivate them to compete on an international stage.

We achieved some amazing results from the 25 students that were enrolled in the competition. A big thank you to Ms Katsi for her organisation!

Some highlights included:

- Coming 1st in Australia for Japanese for a school with less than 50 students competing.

- Coming 3rd in the World for a school with less than 50 students competing.

- Coming 6th in Victoria for Japanese.

- Grace Hodgson came 163rd in the World.

- Our 25 students spent a combined 102 hours competing within a single week.

Another highlight for the term was that  Year 8 Japanese students had the opportunity to collaborate with the VCE Japanese students in a sushi making workshop.

The students produced, shared and enjoyed several different types of sushi, with all of them reporting it was 'totemo ooishii!'

And finally, students had a blast at the Taiko Drumming Workshop. They immersed themselves in the vibrant world of Japanese culture and felt the pulse of each drumbeat as they learned a number of rhythmic patterns each with their own contagious energy.

Later in the day we were lucky enough to welcome a few of our local primary schools to join in and 'drum up' some further excitement.

A huge thank you to Kiyami Calwell from EZ Japanese for this enriching experience and also to our staff Ms Katsi and Ms Toney for organising and facilitating this great day.
