Around The Rooms

Senior Team

Wow, what a busy few weeks we have had leading up to the end of Term 2. Before we share some of the amazing pictures of what we have been up to, I would like to take the time on behalf of Liam, Taylor and myself to wish all of our students and families a fun and restful break over the winter holidays. We have had such a great term and we are looking forward to hitting the deck running with another action packed term ahead for term 3.

Buddies

This year we have made a tweak to our Buddies program that has seen us split into two groups across the school to have a more differentiated approached. This has seen the Grade 5 and Prep Buddies together in the Prep space, whilst the Grade 6 and Grade 1 buddies working in the main building of the Senior space. One of our latest sessions saw us inventing and creating some fantastic newspaper hats, this encouraged continued development in fine motor, problem solving and social skills across a multi-age setting.

District Netball

This term has seen a large number of students participate in District Sports in Football, Soccer and Netball. A few weeks ago it was the Mixed Netball teams time to shine and my goodness did they indeed. Held at Selkirk Stadium in Ballarat, we competed in 3 pool B games. We finished on top of our Pool which gave us a berth in the Semi Finals and with a convincing win we were on our way to the Grand Final. In what was a hard fought match we managed to win the Grand Final in extra time 11-9. All of our students were amazing and showed our values of great Inspiration, Growth, Courage and Community. Well done to all the students that participated, Miss Lisa for being our first aid person and all the parents that came and supported throughout the day. It was a big day but a very successful one.

Werribee Zoo & Wildlife Exposures Incursion

This term through both our Inquiry and Literacy Units, we have been focusing on Sustainability, impacts on the world around us (with the help of Sir David Attenborough), Endangered Animals and how we can use persuasive devices to encourage others to support the planet. We were lucky enough to embed our new learning with some hands-on activities and experiences through our excursion to Werribee Zoo and our Wildlife Exposures Incursion.

Middle Years

EXHIBITION

1st Contact MAPPEN Expo

What an amazing display of information and learning our Middle Years' students put on! Our expo, which many parents and family members attended, on Thursday 27th, June, was the culmination of an exciting term of learning for our MAPPEN unit, 1st Contact. Our term's learning also included our excursion to Geelong Gaol and our Week 10 assembly item: Bound for Botany Bay. Students were tasked with completing a range of tasks, some more literacy based (both written and oral forms), some hands-on/creative, and some research based and related to digital literacies (use of information technology). Some of these tasks were included as homework to give families an opportunity to be involved and to give students a chance to deep dive into aspects of the topic which sparked their passion. We were thrilled to get to share our expo with so many families as well as students from other grades and the 1/2 Team. Well done, Team! 👏👏👏

ASSEMBLY

Bound for Botany Bay

Thank you to family members who were able to come and watch our Bound for Botany Bay assembly and thank you to parents for getting involved and outfitting our students so splendidly, as convicts, 1st & 2nd class passengers, marines, and even a chimney sweep! The whole team did an amazing job, and we were extremely proud!

INCURSION

Wildlife Exposure: By Jordyn Kennan

'Yesterday we had an incursion and there were wildlife animals. Some people got to hold the animals and pat them. I got to hold a lizard; I think it was a stumpy tailed lizard, and his name was Stumpy. There was a giant snake, which was a python of some sort, and it took 3 or 4 people to hold it. There was a squirrel possum and it jumped off Harlow's arm. There was a crocodile, named Johnny, and he was still a baby. When we went to put him back his box, he kept poking his head out like he wanted to come back out. We learnt a lot about some wildlife animals that I didn't even know existed before. It was a really good incursion!'

MATHS

This term, Grades 3 and 4 have been leaning about angles in Maths. We have learned about angle names, associated measurements, complementary and supplementary angles, and how to use a protractor. Students were very excited to draw, label, and measure on the tables (don't worry, we used white board markers)!

Junior Team

Wow, what a big term it has been! We are constantly blown away by the capabilities of our youngest students and the learning that they are not only taking on but also retaining.

This term we have continued to unlock sounds, develop our handwriting skills and letter formation and build fluency in reading. Our hands on maths lessons are always a lot of fun and a great way to reiterate the teaching and learning in an exciting way.

Next term there are lots of exciting things planned as well as lots of new learning that will take place. Enjoy the break, the Preps, Ones and Twos are all in need of a restful and relaxing holiday. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 3, on July 15th.

Stay safe,

Golf Clinics – Grades 3-6

This term during Physical Education sessions, Coach Emily from Kelly Sports and Mr M, have been teaching students from Grades 3-6 how to play golf. Students have used a range of specialised equipment to learn how to drive, chip and putt. It has been great for students to experience something different, and they have shown fantastic improvement along the way! This program was possible via funding from Sporting Schools.
