World Environment Day Fundraiser: Think Global, Act Local!

We are incredibly proud of the many students who actively participated in the World Environment Day environmental initiatives. Their enthusiasm and willingness to contribute made the day both inspiring and impactful.

A highlight of the day was our collaboration with Glen Eira Council, who provided a rich learning experience focused on indigenous biodiversity and its crucial role in supporting healthy local ecosystems. Students gained valuable insights into how native plants contribute to the wellbeing of our environment and wildlife.

Putting this knowledge into action, our students worked together at Glen Huntly Park to plant an impressive 280 indigenous plants. These plantings will help create habitats that support local birds, insects, and other wildlife, contributing to a thriving and sustainable environment.

Back at school, a range of students also chose to spend part of their lunchtime giving back to our grounds. They worked diligently to collect litter from our gardens and shared outdoor spaces, helping to keep our community areas clean and welcoming. We thank these students for giving up their time to make a positive difference.

Finally, thank you to our families for your ongoing support, including those who contributed through donations or by embracing initiatives such as bringing nude food. Your partnership helps strengthen our shared commitment to sustainability.

Together, we are building a community that values and protects our environment for the future.

Please note that submissions need to be provided in a high-quality format, sized to A4. The covers (front or back) must include a reference to the GEC Gecko (including an image of a gecko somewhere on the page) and the school logo.

Good luck and we look forward to seeing this year’s entries.
