Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

WORKING BEE THANK YOU – SATURDAY 23RD MAY 2026

A huge thank you to all of our parents, staff and students who gave their time and energy to support our Working Bee on Saturday 23rd May.

There was an enormous amount achieved across the school, including:

  • Gardening and general grounds maintenance
  • Sandpit maintenance and tidy up
  • Painting of rails and touch-up works

Your support, teamwork and willingness to help have made a real difference to our school grounds and learning spaces. These improvements help keep Warrnambool Primary School looking its best for all students and families.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who contributed their time and effort. Thank you for supporting our school community and taking pride in making our environment welcoming and enjoyable for all.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME 2026

Warrnambool Primary School recently joined thousands of schools, libraries and early learning centres across Australia in celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS).

National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event that brings children together through the joy of reading, with students across the country sharing the same book at the same time. This year’s featured story was Luna Roo, which our students thoroughly enjoyed reading and exploring together. It is a wonderful opportunity to promote literacy, imagination and a lifelong love of books.

Our students enjoyed taking part in this special event, sharing stories, engaging in discussions and celebrating the importance of reading together. Events like these highlight how books can connect communities and inspire young learners.

Reading remains one of the most important foundations for learning, and it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and excitement shown by our students throughout the day. Classrooms were filled with laughter, curiosity and thoughtful conversations as students connected with the story and shared their ideas with one another.

A big thank you to our staff for organising activities and creating such an enjoyable experience for our students. We hope this event encourages everyone to continue enjoying stories at home and to keep reading every day.

Well done to all students for embracing the fun of reading and celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime together!

YEAR 4A MASTER CHEFS

Students in 4A recently showcased their reading and culinary skills in a fun and creative cooking activity. Students read a banana bread recipe in class and then brought the recipe to life in the school kitchen.

They worked in small groups to follow the recipe and prepare banana muffins or banana bread, and they were able to enjoy their delicious creations afterwards. It was an excellent way for the students to experience one of the many benefits of reading while also developing their teamwork, collaboration, and procedural thinking skills in a hands-on activity.

The final products were tried and tested by students and staff, and it was agreed that they earned the title of 4A Master Chefs!

AFLW VISIT

Our Year 5 girls recently enjoyed a very special visit from four players from the Geeling AFLW team.

Jasmin Stewart, Sienna Tallariti, Bryde O'Rourke and Julia Crockett-Grills spent time speaking with the students about their football journeys, training, teamwork and what it takes to play at the elite level.

The girls had the opportunity to ask plenty of questions and learn more about life as an AFLW player. Following the Q&A session, students headed outside for a fun kick-to-kick session with the players, where they were able to practise their football skills and enjoy some time on the oval.

It was a fantastic experience for our students and a wonderful opportunity to be inspired by positive female role models in sport. We thank the players and the Geelong Football Club AFLW for taking the time to visit our school.

BIOCATS EXCURSION

On Monday, six of our senior students participated in an exciting program organised by local Koorie Engagement Support Officer Stephen Young.

The students attended “BioCats”, a program held at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong that uses Australian Rules football to teach STEM concepts in a fun and engaging way.

Throughout the day, students took part in a range of hands-on activities that explored science, technology, engineering and mathematics through football. They learnt about topics such as movement, reaction time, statistics and performance, while also developing teamwork and problem-solving skills.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and represented our school wonderfully throughout the day.

SORRY DAY AND RECONCILITATION WEEK

Tuesday the 26th of May was Sorry Day and the start of Reconciliation Week (27th of May to the 3rd of June).

Reconciliation Week is a special time in Australia, to learn about, share and celebrate the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and a time to think about how we can build better relationships between First Nations people and all other Australians to create a fairer, more respectful future.

The theme for Reconciliation Week this year is All in, which is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

National Sorry Day is a day to remember the Stolen Generations, their families, and their communities. The day is an opportunity for all Australians to remember past mistakes and build stronger bridges for a richer, stronger future together.

Thank you very much to everyone who decorated a purple flower to add to our yearly Sorry Day display, which is on Mr Kluver’s classroom window and on the wall near the school office.
