Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

A big welcome to Week 8!

As we get ready for Semester 2 on Monday June 15th, you will hopefully be in exciting conversations with your own children about subject rotations, new electives, and every day changes that happen at this time of the year. A letter has gone out to all families today to support with clarity about our expectations; I am confident that this information will support your conversations around supporting success at school.

Staff are diligently wrapping up Semester 1, and a key part of this is our Report Writing Day on Friday June 12th; has been previously communicated, this is a Student Free Day.

Hello everyone,

Term 2 for the Middle School has been an eventful yet peaceful term.

For the Year 10s, we started off the term with a bang, jumping right into our work experience week. We had students going off to car dealerships, primary schools, working at construction sites and much more. Around this time, exam preparation started. Across the weeks of 5 and 6, Year 10s had subject tasters during their MFMP classes. We had students from both Year 11 and Year 12 come in to help answer any questions we had. They were very helpful for many of us who were unsure about our pathways. Relating to MFMP, we had careers meetings over the last few weeks, where we talked with a Careers Advisor about pathways and our potential Year 11 subjects.

In Week 4, some Year 10s went to Mordialloc Community House and helped the elderly with technology issues, strengthening their leadership and responsibility skills. Additionally, the Year 10 accelerating Outdoor Education class went to Lysterfield for the day and did mountain biking.

For the Year 9s, they have been revising hard for their maths and science exams. Half of the cohort was participating in the Mordialloc Experience (MEX) 2.0 program, making delicious smoothies whilst learning about healthy diets and eating habits. At the end of the Term, the MEX students travelled to the city for 2 days and completed their booklet, having a great load of fun on the way!

Year 9 Outdoor Education students went rock climbing, which was a hit for both the students and the teachers. In Week 7, some girls from Year 9 attended a Girls’ Trade and Tech Expo which allowed them to explore potential career pathways in the Trade and Technology industries. Subject tasters have been in full swing, letting the Year 9s see how they feel about subjects that they might choose for Year 10 or VCE.

For both of our years, they have competed in Cross Country, with those placing in the top 10 going through to districts and some even placing in that and heading off to regionals. As we are finishing up Semester 1, Year 9s and 10s have completed a couple of important weeks with end of semester tests and their first exams coming to an end. The girls and boys have been competing in the Intermediate Gala Days, playing strongly and winning. At the start of Term 2, a few students participated in primary school visits. They were a smashing success with us having fun, showing off our uniforms and speaking about our experience here. We visited Chelsea, Chelsea Heights, Aspendale, Aspendale Gardens and Edithvale primary schools.

In week 4, students attended the Bayside Youth Summit. We worked with schools across our local area consisting of Beaumaris Secondary College who hosted St Bedes, Parkdale Secondary College, Star of the Sea and us. We spent the day working on leadership skills, solving problems and even acting like we had discovered something from 2026 in the year 3000 and how we would describe it.

At the start of Term 2, the MCSC hosted Open Night for prospective parents of 2027 Year 7 students. It was a great success, and Year 9 and 10 helpers were highly praised by visitors. Overall, Term 2 was a jam-packed term and closes out the semester well.

Thank you, have a great Headstart and a wonderful holidays,

S(mac)kTalk Presentation

On Tuesday 9th June, our Year 7 & 8 students attended the S(mac)kTalk presentation, a powerful and moving session focused on raising awareness about cyberbullying and sexual extortion.

The presentation was delivered by the father of Mac, a young victim of online abuse. The name S(mac)kTalk was created to honour Mac's memory, incorporating both his name and his passion for basketball. While "smack talk" is often associated with friendly banter or trash talk in sport, the charity uses the name to promote a much more important message: helping to stamp out cyberbullying and sexual extortion.

Students listened attentively throughout the presentation and were respectful and thoroughly engaged with the important issues being discussed. The session provided valuable insights into the risks young people can face online and reinforced the importance of making safe and responsible choices in the digital world.

Families were provided with resources to continue these important conversations at home.

We thank Wayne for sharing such a personal story and delivering a message that will have a lasting impact on our school community.

Student Safety Within Our Community

I continue to be concerned about e-bike and bicycle safety to and from Mordialloc College, and we work closely with Victoria Police to keep our students safe when they are out in the community via their visibility and education around e-bike and bicycle safety, and legislation.

Every time I contact a family about an incident involving their child on their way to and from school, that family is always surprised to find out that their child has been involved. Please can I urge you to trust our concerns and to speak with your child about how to be safe within the wider school community.

Unfortunately, bicycle accidents are not rare; throughout my career I  have attended accidents involving students and in cases where students were wearing helmets, injuries were minimised.  If your child rides to school, please talk to them about the importance of wearing their helmet whilst riding their bike.  As I have mentioned to you previously, Mordialloc College staff will engage with students as they enter the college gates, but this really is a broader issue within our school community which could have a tragic outcome if not addressed.

Senior Formals

We look forward to the Year 11 Formal which will be held tonight at the Dingley International; I cannot wait to see the outfits of our fabulous Year 11 students! Thanks to Year 11 Coordinators Mick Haber, Kellie Goebel and Claire Bruce for organising this event with the organising committee of students and staff attending to support it.

Looking forward to seeing you all next semester!
