Year 6 Camp

Year 6 Camp
Camp in the City
This year's camp took place in the outskirts of the city by Melbourne Zoo, and The year six were the ones there. Before we hopped onto the bus to drive there, there were many mixed emotions among the students. Some were worried, some were excited, and some were nervous to leave their family, but me personally, I was pumped. Me and my friends were waiting in our lines with our luggage wandering whose cabin we could be in. The thing I was most looking forward to wasn’t the zoo, wasn't the urban detective, wasn't the parliament house and definitely wasn't the skydeck. But I simply, simply, wanted to find out my cabin group.
The whole ride there was a bus filled with excited and chaotic kids shouting down the aisle to talk to their friends. Suddenly the bus came to a stop, we looked out the window and were ushered by the site of the camp in the middle of Royal Park. The initial sight and first impressions had great complements. We thought we had seen the best of it, until we saw the spacious rooms with a 4 metre clearance between bunks. Me and the rest of my cabin, Joshua, Sebastian, Jhona, Gaurave, Jayden, and Rafeal were wowed by the big beds. Soon after arriving we had a 10 minute march to the Melbourne Zoo. We stayed for four hours and looked at the primates, seals, penguins, lions, and butterflies. I was lucky enough to have one land on me. Later at night I went to the Social Fair and the highlight was definitely the rock climbing. In the timed wall my best was 17.3 seconds, bested only by Joshua at 16.4 seconds and Marlisa at 9 seconds, and then we went off to bed.
In my opinion one of the highlights was definitely the Parliament House. There was a ridiculous amount of 24 carrot gold covering the roof all harvested during the gold rush. The roof of the library was amazing with a railing maid out of gold on the second floor and gold decorations on the roof. We saw the red room and the green. In the green room I saw my dads close friends seat on the outskirts.
My favourite part of camp was the rock climbing by a long shot, and the most boring thing was probably the Immigration Museum. I liked rock climbing because I enjoy doing sports that involve stability and pushing your whole body. I actually used to do trampolining, and in my free time we would do rock climbing.
My thoughts on this camp overall is that it was very enjoyable, I'd rate it an 8.5 out of ten. It would be a ten if we had more cabin time and there were more popular games in the games room. The only popular games were two arcade machines, a pool table, and a ping pong table. It wasn't enough to go around our over 50 person group and another school, but otherwise, I think it was an amazing experience to spend with my friends.

Camp Adventures
Our school camp took place at Urban Camp, Parkville and it was near the city. It was for 4 days and 3 nights, longer than last year! While I was packing, I felt excited, but also nervous because I would be away from my family. I also had to miss my aunties birthday party because it was on the day that we drove to the camp. I’m pretty sure everyone went except for Lani because she was on holiday!
I arrived at school and waited at the basketball court with my friends and everyone else. We left the school at 8:45am and got to the camp at around 10:00am. There were 10 people in my cabin. I got the people that I chose as well. Before we went into our cabins, we went to the Melbourne Zoo, it wasn’t too far so we decided to walk. All of us came back and ate pasta, garlic bread for dinner and a chocolate moose for dessert. Then we went to the Social Fair which was so fun, there was rock climbing and a playground. The girls went to the playground first and the boys went rock climbing. After 1 hour, we switched places. Then we went back to the camp and got ready to go to bed.
The year 6s went to lots of places, such as The Parliament House, ACMI, Old Treasury Building, Immigration Museum and lots more. They were all fun experiences for us to have. There was a bunch of gold in Parliament House, ACMI was all about screens and technology and we were able to see a replica of the golden nugget that was found during the gold rush! When we got back to the camp, my friend shouted out “Chicken butt!” and then we saw Miss Rowley, which she was not happy about. That made me and my friend laugh for some reason.
