Extended Learning Opportunities in Term 2
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23
Extended Learning at Brooklyn Park continues to provide students with exciting opportunities to challenge their thinking, explore new ideas, and develop important problem-solving skills. This term has been filled with rich learning experiences across a range of areas.
Celebrating Mathematical Achievement
Students in Years 3–6 recently participated in the Kangourou sans Frontières (KSF) Maths Competition. Inspired by the Australian Mathematics Trust’s Australian Mathematics Competition, KSF is now one of the largest mathematics competitions in the world, attracting over 6 million participants each year. We are incredibly proud of the effort shown by our students, with Brooklyn Park receiving 10 credits and one High Distinction. A special congratulations goes to Elspeth R, who achieved the High Distinction, an outstanding result and a wonderful reflection of her dedication and mathematical thinking.
Robotics and Coding with LEGO Spike Prime
Students have also been engaging in hands-on STEM learning through LEGO Spike Prime. They have been designing, building, and coding their own robots, developing skills in problem-solving, collaboration, and computational thinking. It has been fantastic to see students experimenting, troubleshooting, and refining their creations as they bring their ideas to life.
Developing Critical and Creative Thinking
Extended Learning sessions have featured a variety of engaging games that challenge students to think critically and creatively. Through games such as Articulate, Bananagrams, Absolute Balderdash, and The World Game, students have been building vocabulary, reasoning skills, and general knowledge, while also learning to collaborate and communicate effectively with their peers.
Exploring How Things Move
Students have been investigating the science of movement by exploring how different forces act on objects. Through hands-on activities such as creating paper planes and rockets, students have been able to test, observe, and discuss how forces like push and pull affect motion. These activities have encouraged curiosity, experimentation, and a deeper understanding of physical science concepts.
da Vinci Decathlon Success
A team of eight Year 5/6 students represented Brooklyn Park in the da Vinci Decathlon, an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of students across a wide range of disciplines. Teams compete across ten areas, including engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography, and legacy. Our students performed exceptionally well, demonstrating teamwork, perseverance, and a willingness to take on complex challenges. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school.
Extended Learning at Brooklyn Park continues to nurture curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. It has been wonderful to see students embrace challenges, think deeply, and grow in their abilities across so many areas.

SACSA Soccer Carnival Results
Last week, students from our Brooklyn Park and South Plympton campuses proudly represented the College at the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 SACSA Soccer Tournaments. Despite challenging weather conditions at the Year 3/4 carnival, with rain, sleet and muddy fields throughout the day, students displayed remarkable resilience, enthusiasm and determination, keeping spirits high and supporting one another throughout the competition.
The tournaments provided valuable opportunities for students to develop teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship, while competing with excellence and integrity.
Notable achievements included:
- Year 3/4 Boys - 12th
- Year 3/4 Girls - 4th
- Year 5/6 Boys - 4th
- Year 5/6 Girls - 7th
A special thank you goes to our Year 11 & 12 students Petrus, Amy, and Ehinomhen for their leadership, encouragement and commitment to supporting our teams. It was also exciting to see our Year 10 PE students apply their soccer officiating skills in a real-world setting as part of their curriculum.
Well done to all students who participated and represented our College so well.
