Wominjeka Everyone,

This week, we are recognising National Reconciliation Week, beginning with National Sorry Day. During our roll call "Good Chat," children explored the meaning of reconciliation and discussed how it involves rebuilding relationships through understanding, respect, and trust.
Together, we talked about the ongoing impacts of colonisation and why reconciliation remains important today. The discussion prompted thoughtful questions and reflections from the children, including considering how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people may feel when these topics are discussed. This provided an opportunity to recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are part of our community and to reflect on how we can all contribute to a more respectful and inclusive future.
While these conversations can be complex, the children showed genuine curiosity, empathy, and engagement. We are proud of their willingness to listen, ask questions, and learn about Australia's shared history and journey towards reconciliation.
We encourage families to continue the conversation at home by asking your children what they learned about Reconciliation Week and why it is important. Through open discussions and shared learning, we can all play a part in building stronger relationships and a more inclusive community.
Get ready to jump, roll, balance and tumble with Tara every Wednesday from 4:00pm – 5:00pm!

Whether your child loves cartwheels, stretching, balancing or simply moving their body and having fun with friends, Tumbling with Tara is a fantastic way to stay active after school!

We are incredibly excited to welcome Charlie Needs Braces to our School Holiday Program on Friday 10 July as part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations!
Charlie Needs Braces is an award-winning musical duo made up of GuriNgai sisters Charlie and Miri, who are known for their energetic performances, storytelling, language, and connection to Country. Through music, they share stories about Aboriginal culture, history, identity, and caring for the environment in ways that are engaging, meaningful, and fun for children.
One of Charlie's songs was written to honour the Traditional names of places and the stories, knowledge, and resources that have been passed down through generations. Their music also encourages us to think about how we care for our waterways, wildlife, and Country, and inspires people to learn more about the Traditional Owners of the land on which they live.
Charlie and Miri have performed at festivals and events across Australia and have received national recognition for their music, including winning the Archie Roach Award for Emerging Talent. We are especially excited to welcome Miri back to our community, as many families may remember her from her time working at our school as an ESS staff member and OSHC educator.
Children can look forward to an interactive workshop filled with music, storytelling, culture, movement, and learning. This promises to be a memorable experience and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate NAIDOC Week while deepening our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
We can't wait to sing, learn, and celebrate together! ❤️💛🖤
