Health and Wellbeing

The Health and Wellbeing classroom has been transformed! Students from all year levels have been contributing to the space, in various ways. The Wellness Corner has been created and has become a space for students to use for a reset, or sometimes just to complete their class activity in a quieter corner of the classroom. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful contributions!
Some things that students are enjoying about the new space include:
Pip (1/2): I feel really calm when I come in and I always calm down after playing outside in the space. Star of the Lesson is the best. And the calming corner is really snuggly!
Marlo and Muriel (3/4): We love coming to the new classroom because it makes us feel calm and special. We love the plants and the wellness corner is the best because it helps us to reset and feel better. If someone is sad or angry they could use the resources like the mindful colouring books. The space is special and different, and we love the colour scheme. We all look forward to Health and Wellbeing now because the space is so tidy and clean. The Zen Garden, the Book of Awesome, the Star Table and Bob are an added bonus!
Students across the school have finished their unit on ‘Help-Seeking’.In the junior school, students can now identify adults and peers that they can go to when they need assistance. They have also been learning which problems can be solved by themselves, problems that may need to be solved with the help of a peer and those problems that will need to be solved with the help of a trusted adult.
In the senior school, the Year 3-6’s have completed their online safety unit. We’ve looked at some case studies (provided by Australian Government E-Safety Commission) and discussed the types of issues that could arise when they are using an online platform, whether it be a game or even a text message, and how they can deal with these issues.
The 5/6 students have also completed an online safety plan which outlines how they can keep devices safe; these were sent home with students a couple of weeks ago.
How You Can Help At Home
Foundation - 2 parents: Continue to use the language from the Catastrophe Scale (see Week 3 newsletter!) Ask your child who their trusted people are if they need help at school.
Year 3 - 6 parents: Share some of your own experiences with issues that you may have seen online. Ask your child how they would manage the situation and where they can go for help if they are feeling uncomfortable with anything they see or hear.
