Year 5/6

Portsea Camp

Earlier this term the ⅚ students, teachers along with Jack, Anna, Eileen, Meerah, Jarrah and Tara attended the Portsea Camp! From the bus ride there to the first activities starting on Day 1, positive emotions and excitement were all around! Some groups headed straight to the beach for kayaking and games in the sand, while others tested their teamwork and peer support skills through high ropes, the giant swing and a new hobby many of us may continue - geocaching!

Some further camp highlights included Isaac and Max M hosting the very first BSPS talent show, surprisingly delicious camp food, a huge multi-group capture the flag, using the giant slide to move around the camp and getting cozy to watch the iconic film Flubber with the whole cohort.

A huge thanks to all involved - it was an amazing final camp for the Year 6 students, and for Year 5s a significant step forward in their leadership and maturity!

How you can help students at home

In Maths this unit we are looking at fractions, decimals and percentages, including how they are connected to each other, and how they can be visualised in different ways. As fractions come up in daily life (during cooking, sharing between people or groups, crafting) encourage your child to notice and visualise how the fraction may be an equal part of the whole. For a further challenge, your child can help with discounts while shopping, for example calculating the final price after a 10% or 20% discount.
