Homegroup

As this is the first year of Homegroup at Berwick College, I wanted to provide some context regarding how Homegroup has been assessed for Semester 1 reports.

Each year level completed a common assessment task in the form of a folio of work. This folio consisted of activities and learning tasks completed throughout the semester during Homegroup sessions.

Students have been assessed against the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 Personal and Social Capability, which focuses on the development of skills such as self-awareness, emotional literacy, relationship building, collaboration, problem-solving, and responsible decision making.

Teachers have used the folio evidence, along with observations of student participation and engagement in Homegroup activities, to make a judgement against the relevant Victorian Curriculum achievement standards.

As Homegroup is a new subject area, this assessment provides a foundation for monitoring and supporting students' personal and social development as they progress through the program.

The Personal and Social Capability curriculum plays an essential role in developing students' personal and social skills, enabling them to understand themselves and others, and navigate their relationships, lives, work and learning.

The Personal and Social Capability curriculum supports students to develop the skills they need for collaboration and working effectively in teams. More broadly, it helps students to form and maintain healthy and respectful relationships and contributes to their capacity to undertake and shape their roles as family, community and workforce members in an increasingly demanding and diverse global society.

The Personal and Social Capability curriculum also supports students to develop a sense of purpose and optimism about their lives and future, and become creative and confident individuals with self-awareness and a sense of self-worth and personal identity that enables them to manage their emotional, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing.
