Alumni Spotlight

Last week, we were thrilled to welcome back two Berwick College Alumni Ty Barrot (Class of 2020) and Eli Seppings (Class of 2023), to speak with our Year 8 students who are considering continuing Indonesian as an elective in Year 9.
Both Ty and Eli shared how their Indonesian studies at Berwick College opened doors to incredible opportunities and helped shape their future study and career pathways.
Eli spoke about his journey from studying Indonesian at school to living and volunteering throughout Indonesia for two years. He is now studying a Bachelor of Education (Honours), majoring in Indonesian Studies, and hopes to become an Indonesian teacher before eventually moving into school leadership.
Ty reflected on how his six years of Indonesian at Berwick College became one of his primary academic interests. Alongside his Law and Arts studies, he has continued developing his language skills and last year completed a legal internship in Jakarta with the Indonesian Judicial Research Society.
Our students were fascinated to hear firsthand how language learning can lead to unique experiences, international opportunities and rewarding careers. Both alumni also shared fond memories of their time at Berwick College and highlighted the important role teachers played in supporting their success.
A huge thank you to Ty and Eli for generously sharing their experiences and insights with our students. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and grateful for the inspiration they provided to our future Indonesian learners.
We were having far too much fun during the session to remember to take photos! Instead, we're sharing a recent photo of Eli from his travels in Indonesia, and also one of Ty from his visit with our Indonesian faculty last year.
