Health & Physical Education
(HPE)
Congratulations to all students on completing another successful semester in Health and Physical Education. We are incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm, resilience, and growth demonstrated across all classes throughout the semester. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, during camps and excursions, or through leadership opportunities, students have consistently embraced challenges and worked hard to achieve their personal best. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break and look forward to another exciting semester ahead.
Our Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies students recently visited Akoonah Park as part of their fieldwork investigations. During the excursion, students researched and analysed the diverse natural environments found within the reserve, examining the interactions between people and place. A highlight of the day was observing a range of native flora and fauna, including the critically endangered Helmeted Honeyeater. The fieldwork provided valuable opportunities for students to apply their classroom learning through firsthand observations and environmental data collection.
As course counselling approaches, we are excited to introduce two new HPE electives for students in 2027.
Year 9 – PE Sports Leadership
This practical and engaging subject provides students with opportunities to develop coaching and leadership skills through authentic sporting experiences. Students will learn how to plan, deliver and evaluate physical activities, including drills, modified games and team challenges. Throughout the course, they will develop effective communication, collaboration and organisational skills while building confidence in leading others and reflecting on their own performance to improve future practice.
Year 10 – Extended Investigation: Sports Development
This subject allows students to explore contemporary issues in sport participation and development through inquiry-based learning. Students will generate and refine research questions, gather and evaluate information from a variety of sources, analyse evidence and draw informed conclusions. They will investigate the effectiveness of sporting programs and initiatives, consider multiple perspectives, and apply critical and creative thinking to propose solutions to real-world challenges facing sport and physical activity today.
