The Curriculum Focus in Performing Arts

Prep

Students have been learning about using imagination and acting through participating in drama activities. They have used their voices in a range of ways to act out different emotions and characters. They have acted out an animal character in the puppet play “Hattie and the Fox”.

Grade 1

Students have been using their knowledge of actors to identify the skills they possess when portraying characters. They have focussed on the use of body and movement when acting and telling a story with masks.

Grade 2

Students have been learning about shadow puppets. They have selected a small group to act out a play based on Aesop’s Fables. They will rehearse these plays using shadow puppets and work towards fluently reading and memorising a drama script.

Grade 3 & 4

Students have been learning about the features of Melodrama. They have engaged in activities based around stock characters, exaggeration and asides. They have selected a small group to act out a Victorian Melodrama play. They have started rehearsing these plays and will work towards memorising lines and action in their drama script.

Grade 5 & 6

Students are continuing listening and responding to music selected by their peers at the start of each lesson. They have been working on creating characters and scenes from: A first line given, Starter Scripts and have selected a partner to work with on a short play from the Take 2 play series. Visual Arts

Wominjenka, and greetings from the Art Room.

With most of the 150th celebrations done and dusted, you would think things would have slowed down, but no! Most of our Book Week activities are finished and while I promised pictures of everything, I am still to get some work up on the walls.

Drawing on the Paintings of Jandamarra Cadd in the book We Are Australians, the Preps have created multi coloured pictures of themselves. They look fabulous and are currently on display in the entrance foyer. Pop by and see what you think.

‘With lots of hiding places put into their work, the Grade Ones have finished working on their homes inspired by the book, The Best Hiding Place. This work was all about the process, as they glued, drew and collaged ‘the best hiding places’ they could. While it took a little while to realise they had to build in little flaps to hide under, the kids became really excited as they created little areas to hide in/behind.

A work still in progress, the Grade Twos are yet to finish their Lionel & Me projects. They still have their dogs, Maverick and Lionel, to complete When they are finished and attached to the kennels, they will be done and should look pretty impressive.

Pretty and colourful, the Grade Threes have created beautiful, collaged pictures of gardens full on ‘Tiny Wonders’. As I have yet to mount these onto coloured backgrounds they are not ready to display. They should be up soon. (Fingers crossed)

On display in the office, on the board in front of Di and Jo is the work of the Grade Fours. Their inspiration came from the book, Frank’s Red Hat. While there aren’t many red hats on display, there is quite a variety of different designs and styles to see. The kids really enjoyed making these and are excited to see their work on display.

The work done by the Grades Fives and Sixes is pretty much done. All I need now is to hang them on the wall to display. It is always interesting to see how kids interpret their ideas so differently. I am loving the lyrebirds!

In addition to all this, students have also begun to think about and work on ideas to incorporate into their Crazy Camel works of art. For those of you who don’t know, Crazy Camel is a little fundraiser we do for the school through the Art Room. We will send home more information about this next term. But in the meantime, feel free to look at some of the potential designs the kids have been working on.

Stay happy and keep creating art!

You have already made everyone incredibly proud!
