Last Wednesday and Thursday the Year 10 students participated in an informative road safety and education program, the presentation was about road safety training and to help reduce young people's risk as a road user and support them in their foundational stages of learning to drive.
Over the past couple of weeks many Bairnsdale Secondary College students from Years 7-10 have been participating in the International Competition and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) in a range of key learning areas. The ICAS academic competition began in 1981 and has rapidly grown to become Australia’s most popular school competition. ICAS is now offered internationally, with over 10 million students from 16,000 schools across 41 participating countries.
Amongst those participating were the top twenty students from Year 10 Mathematics (pictured).
This week we held both Year 11 and 12 Assemblies. For Year 12 students their finishing dates are fast approaching, topics of discussion were key dates, VTAC, Hat and Tie Day and Celebration Day expectation.
For Year 11 students - topics were attendance, exams dates, work experience expectation and Study camp in November.
VM staff visited TAFE learning restaurant, The Oaktree, where they were greeted and served by VET Hospitality students. All meals were delicious and the presentation was 5 star quality!
Year 11 Health and Human Development
Students in HHD this week spent 24 hours with Daisy and Todd, stimulator babies. We have heard back from the students, there were some 2am wake up cries!
On Wednesday we had a visit from the Australian Defence Force, they discussed all the different careers pathways that students who join can achieve. Peter the speaker has served for 11 years with the Royal Australian Navy, he is a Supply Chain Manager and Ships Medical Emergency Team member. Peter has visited 25 countries in 10 year.
The students went on an excursion to the Gippy Youth New Energy Job Summit in Sale. It was an interactive program presented by experts and guest speakers in Energy industry. Students learnt about the future of work in renewable Energy and related sectors. This was an excellent opportunity for students to gain knowledge around training and job prospects in the energy industry.
All Current Year 11 students will have a study camp program in Term 4. The dates are 8th to10th November at Camp Coolamatong. All details and permission are on Compass. There is no cost for the camp.
Study sessions on Wednesday and Thursday after school continue to be popular. Students are welcome to stay back after school and study with the help of many teachers available.
Study sessions take place in the Malgobila LRC on a Wednesday and Thursday from 3.15 pm to 5.00 pm. All students from all year levels are welcome to attend.
