Year 7 Camp

‘The Summit’ Trafalgar

Year 7 Camp August 16-18, 2023

With great excitement our Year 7 students and 14 staff travelled by bus to attend a winter adventure camp set on 50 acres in Gippsland’s Trafalgar. Over 3 days our students worked in teams together and shared many new experiences.  Each student was encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and support one another.

Activities such as the Leap of Faith, Summit Window, Giant Swing and Flying Fox were epic opportunities for our students to be empowered and challenged.  The Giant Swing was a definite favourite for many of our students. A night walk through the bush with over 160 walkers was made unforgettable when all torches were turned off and even the leaders took the wrong turn.  Fortunately, all paths lead back to camp.

Crossing the midwinter lake whizzing at high speed on the Flying Fox and cautiously stepping log to log on the rope Sky Bridge (yes, you can get very wet if you take the wrong step), were adventurous tests for each individual student.

Other challenges included the Cave, known affectionately as the Wombat Hole and the Snowy River Challenge. Team building was strengthened through great fun on the Inflatable City, Laser Skirmish (a personal favourite of mine) and Bush Challenge.

But the ultimate test for the students was the Mud Run Monster Course where teams worked closely together to complete a challenging physical goal in conditions which required resilience and determination. Mud was the theme of the afternoon!!!

Some quotes from our students of their camp highlights include:

  • "Doing the summit window and going all the way to the top and taking my hands off."
  • "Making lots more friends and I feel more confident because I have more friends."
  • "The warm showers after the Mud Run."
  • "Spending time with my friends and getting out of my comfort zone."
  • "Just hanging out with my friends at the cabins."
  • "Going to the top of the summit window and leaning back."
  • "Challenging myself."

Over 3 days many new friendships were made and established, friendships deepened, personal growth and resilience were evident and our students enthusiastically rose to the challenges of Year 7 Camp 2023.
