College Mass for the Feast of the Assumption
On Tuesday 15 August, we were fortunate enough to gather as a community to have the Mass for the Feast of the Assumption. This Feast celebrates the doctrine that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken (assumed) into heaven, body and soul, following the end of her life on Earth.
We are very grateful to have had Fr Jerald Mariadas, the new Parish Priest at St Jude’s and St Simon’s, as our celebrant. Ending the occasion, beautiful testimonies were given by staff and students who attended World Youth Day in Portugal. Thanks to the Choir for their wonderful singing and the Year 12 leaders for their active involvement.

Science Week - Year 7 Incursion
As part of Science Week, our Year 7 students were introduced to some of our native animals by the team from Wild Action.
Students and staff had the opportunity to touch and hold many of the animals, including lizards, frogs, possums, snakes, owls and even a crocodile. The team from Wild Action gave a talk about each animal, including their habitat and diet.
One of the favourite animal guests was Coco, the 10 month old kangaroo joey. She received lots of pats and cuddles from the students. She was very popular in the staffroom at lunchtime, although we were reminded that she is a wild animal after she had an 'accident' on the floor.
Thanks to Ms Heather Murtagh, Ms Sally Ferns and the rest of the Science teachers for a wonderful learning experience.
SIS Book in a Day
The Nazareth Book in a Day Team had a wonderful experience competing against SIS schools to write a 4000-6000 word illustrated novella. This year our zone was hosted by St John’s Regional College in Dandenong. The team of six writers and two illustrators from Years 7, 9 and 10 showed amazing creativity, teamwork and resilience, staying on task from 9:00 a.m. to the 5:00 p.m. deadline.
The standard of writing and illustrating was incredibly impressive. Our veteran team members were a fantastic support to our new team members, and everybody rose to the occasion. Judging commences this week, with results announced early in Term 4. In the meantime, our team’s novella is available to read in the Resource Centre.

Year 7 Japanese
On Friday, 11 August, two Year 7 Japanese classes performed the play おむすび ころりん or “The Rolling Rice Ball”. Students had been learning this Japanese folktale over the past two terms, and this was a formal opportunity for them to showcase their effort. Students were divided into groups of 2 to 4 people and played a role, either as a narrator, an older man, an older woman, or a mouse.
Students used sign language called “ACTLAN” to facilitate their learning of this story. The result was impressive; students worked well as a team, and not only that they memorised their lines, but they also acted out their roles, some with genuine enthusiasm. Well done, Year 7s! Thanks to Ms Eriko Miyagi, the volunteer teacher who supported students throughout the lessons, rehearsals, and presentations. Please enjoy an excerpt of the videos below.

VCE Unit 2 Visual Communication
As a part of the first assessment for Unit 2 in VCE Visual Communication Design, students explored Environmental Design and were challenged to design a house made from three shipping containers. They investigated existing shipping container houses on the market and even used Lego Duplo bricks to help envision different forms of the house when producing visualisation drawings. The crux of the project, however, was the creation of five technical drawings of their buildings applying the conventions associated with the Australian Standards. These drawings included Floor Plans, Site Plans, Elevation Drawings, Planometric Drawings and then, using the information from all these drawings, they produced a proportionally accurate Two-Point Perspective depiction of their house. Please take a look below at the many great examples of the students’ folio pages and their final technical drawings.

The 2023 SIS Athletics Day was one to remember!
Seven schools in the south eastern corridor competed in over 200 events on the day. We were well represented with over 77 students attending from all year levels. In true Nazareth spirit, all students competed hard on the day and gave it their all. In the end Nazareth tallied 6th place.
Thanks to staff who attended on the day: Mr Chuck Chan, Mr Luke Georgakopoulos, Ms Joy Singh, Mr John Brenton, Ms Kate Goodwin, Ms Samantha Xistras, Ms Emilia Roberts, Ms Romy Bilu, Mr Joshua Cowan and Mr John Mehes.
