In the ongoing Auslan journey, students are expanding their sign vocabulary to include a wide range of food signs, from fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy and more. They construct basic sentences into conversations, expressing their food preferences and imaginative scenarios by creating a story, signing these in front of the class as a presentation. Engaging in conversations about their favourite foods allows students to test their receptive and expressive language skills in Auslan for about 10 minutes, promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation for sign language as a proper means of communication. I feel super proud as this has been a lot more challenging recently for all students!
Please take a moment to check out the signs in Auslan for greetings. These are a few words that students have been learning, and I encourage everyone to give it a try!
