Connect: Year 4
Hello 4A and 4B families,
Congratulations to all for completing Term 3, it was our longest term yet. We survived gloomy weather, wet and windy weather and sickness to produce some outstanding work. Before delving into our work there are some important things coming up earlier Term 4.
Camp
Wednesday 4th October we are heading off to Phillip Island for our camp. Please make sure your child is at school on time as the bus will be leaving promptly and we will unfortunately will not be able to wait for late arrivals. If your child(ren) has medication to take on camp, Tarnia will be set up in the office Wednesday morning to collect the medication from you. Please note we cannot accept medication from a student, it must be handed to us by an adult. Another copy of the packing list has been sent home with your child(ren) for your reference. The holidays is a great time to have your child(ren) practise packing and unpacking their sleeping bag. We cannot wait for Wednesday and camp to begin!
Hats are compulsory in Term 4 so please ensure they have a named school hat ready to wear Monday 2nd October. So many of the students have grown over the last few months so we recommend over the holidays having your child(ren) try on their school hat to ensure it still fits.
Celebration of Learning
Reading
The students have loved learning about morphemes and applying this knowledge to selecting a synonym. For example 'hapless' literally means without luck/chance/fortune and 'unfortunate' literally means not lucky.
Writing
We are very proud of the students persuasive writing pieces. They have worked hard to follow the overall structure and to ensure each paragraph is structure correctly. Their introductions have included a general, specific and thesis statement and their body paragraphs have used TEEL. We were blown away by their use of emotive language, high modality words and facts.
Maths
The students have loved asking their own questions to collect data. They then displayed the data in a variety of formats. They were particularly excited to create a column graph and pie chart using Microsoft Word.
Inquiry
The PowerPoint presentations the students created to show their learning throughout our science topic of 'Forces' were wonderful. It was pleasing to see the students prioritising the information over the animations throughout their slideshow. Well done! They worked cooperatively with their parent and ensured they listened to all options.
Wellbeing
Our focus has been on School Wide Positive Behaviours in and outside of the classroom. Students have been role playing the expected behaviours and sharing strategies on how to approach a peer who is displaying unexpected behaviours.
