F1 In Schools

Two F1 in Schools Teams Qualify for State Finals!

On 23rd August students from the STEM Co-Curricular and Stage 5 Design and Technology travelled to Mount Druitt TAFE to participate in the F1 in Schools Regional competition against other schools from Western Sydney. We had seven teams participating, five Cadet Class teams and two Development Class class teams.

We are thrilled to announce that Team XPEDITIOUS (Finn Snedden, Lachlan Burgess, Cody Wright, Maggie Vivian, Ryan Ivery) won their Development Class Category and Team JETT SPEED (Daniel Ball, Jett Lawson) won the Senior Cadet Class category. This means that these two teams are automatically progressing into the State finals at Sydney Motor Sport Park in October. Our second Development Class team AQUILA (Babette Morel-Lewis, Jack Corkins, Winnie Chen, Coco Carter, Haylee Diskin), who finished in fifth place, have also been invited to participate in the state finals.

The STEM Co-Curricular and Stage 5 Design and Technology students have spent many weeks working on designing and manufacturing the competition cars. These students learn a range of designing and manufacturing processes in order to design, cut and paint the cars which includes CAD drawing, CNC Routing and 3D printing.

The competition also includes all teams producing posters giving an overview of the design process of the car, while the Development Class teams must seek sponsorships from local businesses and create an entire portfolio detailing the entire process as well as a team uniform, logo and various displays.

We look forward to providing the BMGS community with an update on the State Finals progress later in the year.
