International Space Centre - Space Boot Camp

27-29 September 2023 - Registrations NOW OPEN!

The University of Western Australia’s International Space Centre (ISC) is holding its next Space Boot Camp during the September school holidays, from 27 to 29 September 2023, and applications are now OPEN.

 

Space Boot Camp is designed to educate and inspire Year 9 and 10 students to consider prospective careers in space-related industries. During the 3-day camp (daytime only), students will have the opportunity to:

  • meet space experts who have worked with NASA, ESA, and UWA researchers driving WA’s space frontiers;
  • engage in interactive sessions covering topics including plant biology, law, rocketry and propulsion, engineering, and zero gravity;
  • visit world-leading facilities in WA that are at the forefront of space exploration; and
  • socialise with other students interested in space.

This is a unique, fun experience and places are limited, so don’t miss this opportunity! 

 

Application deadline: Monday, 4 September 2023.

 

All applications will be reviewed by the International Space Centre and all applicants will be contacted directly by Friday, 8 September. Participation on the 3-day camp will cost $330.

Enabling Program Pathways to Murdoch University

This event is open to all teachers, parents and students who are interested in gaining more information about our enabling programs and their pathway to Murdoch University. The event will be held on the South Street Murdoch Campus and online for those who are unable to attend the South St campus.

Bachelor of Mathematics 

The Bachelor of Mathematics covers core subjects like calculus, linear algebra and statistics, while exploring more advanced topics in complex systems, networks, abstract algebra, analysis, topology, probability theory, numerical methods and more.

Chevron Apprentice and Trainee Program

2024 Intake

The MEGT and Chevron Apprentice and Trainee Program provides on-the-job training in paid employment that could lead to an ongoing career on Australia’s energy frontline. As a Chevron apprentice or trainee, you’ll be supported every step of the way. 

 

2024 positions available include: 

  • Process Technician/Operator Traineeship (two years) 
  • Industrial/Electrical Apprenticeship (four years) 
  • Mechanical Fitting Apprenticeship (four years) 
  • Onslow Aboriginal Pathway Program (12-18 months) 

Applications for the 2024 intake open on Monday, 21 August and close on Friday, 1 September 2023

Run by esteemed organizations like Scouts, Guides, and YMCA, our network of Outdoor Camps provides an exciting opportunity for students seeking adventure and personal growth. As a part of these placements, students help coordinate the day-to-day operations of the camp, which includes engaging in outdoor education programs and assisting in various activities such as archery, swimming, hiking, climbing, canoeing, high ropes courses, group games, and sailing. Approximately 70% of the role involves facilitating these activities and motivating young participants, while the remaining 30% is dedicated to maintenance and cleaning duties. Full training, often leading to formal certification, will be provided to ensure that your son's are well-prepared for this enriching experience.

 

Language Assistant in Spain: Immerse in Spanish Culture and Education! 

For those interested in Spanish culture, language, education, and working with young people, our Language Assistant placement in Spain offers an incredible opportunity. Volunteers in this role will help improve the English language skills of Spanish students, making it a perfect fit for native English speakers. As a School Language Assistant, your son will support English teachers, running engaging activities like games and reading sessions to enhance students' English proficiency. No prior experience is required, making this an excellent chance for aspiring teachers and those eager to learn Spanish. Moreover, volunteers will also contribute to the day-to-day functioning of the school, adding depth to their experience.

Years 11 and 12 ATAR Holiday Revision Courses

*   10 hour ATAR revision courses at Churchlands SHS, Leeming SHS and online.

*   Students will revise and enrich their understanding of course content

*   Increase your students confidence in their subjects

*   Get top tips and strategies to boost their marks in their exams

 

 

Years 7 – 10 Skills Development Courses

*   6 hour Skills Development courses at Perth Modern School.

*   Very small class sizes

*   Students will revise and enrich their understanding of their subjects

*   Students will practise new skills and boost their confidence at school

*   Maths, English,  Essay Writing, and Learning Skills Courses

 

 

ATAR Exam Boost Workshops

*   One day workshops with an experienced exam marker.

*   Students practise answering exam-style questions and receive feedback on their answers

*   Understand what examiners are looking for in exam responses

*   Learn strategies to increase exam marks

$10,000 Award to Support Students

Students who live in an eligible low socioeconomic area, receive an offer from UNSW and enrol in 2024, will be eligible to receive a $10,000 award to support them in maximising their post-school success. Low-socioeconomic areas are based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of  SEIFA criteria. The award will be paid in $2,500 instalments. The first instalment will be at the beginning of Term 1, 2024 and then after the census date of each term.

 

In addition, all students who attend Gateway schools, apply through the Gateway Admission Pathway and enrol at UNSW, will receive a $1,000 Gateway Award to make the transition to university easier, meaning they could be eligible for a total of $11,000.

 

If students apply to UNSW through the Gateway Admission Pathway, they will be advised if they’re eligible to receive the award when early offers and early conditional offers are released. Round 1 offers will be released on Friday, 1 September and Round 2 offers will be released on Friday, 8 December. Any eligible applicants who have not applied through the Gateway Admission Pathway will find out their eligibility for the UNSW Advantage Award in early 2024, before the start of Term 1.
