Problem Solving

Building staff knowledge and practice in the teaching of problem solving in Mathematics is a key part of our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP)

Problem solving encourages students to understand mathematical concepts at a deeper level in a real world context. It provides an opportunity to think critically and creatively about different ways to approach a problem, focusing on the process to determine at least one solution

An important focus of the work is the development of technical language to understand the important information in the problem and the question that is being asked.

Students in Foundation - Year 6 have been participating in weekly problem solving sessions, developing their understanding of the different strategies in the 'Problem Solving Toolkit'.

Teachers are developing their understanding of a range of assessment tools to provide feedback and support to students to progress their skills further.

Ask your child about the problem solving tasks that they have worked on at school.
