Students in our Outdoor Education 1 classes have wrapped up an exciting and hands‑on fishing unit that took them from beginners to confident anglers. Over several lessons, students learned essential skills, including rigging, casting and filleting, gaining practical knowledge that builds both confidence and capability in the outdoors.

The unit began with students exploring different rigs, tying knots and preparing their own setups. From there, they moved into casting practice, developing accuracy, technique and safe handling habits. As their skills grew, so did their enthusiasm.

Their effort certainly paid off. Students caught lots of fish, giving them the opportunity to practice ethical handling while catching and releasing the fish. The filleting sessions were a highlight, with students carefully guided through each step to build respect for the process and an appreciation of where food comes from. The final lesson finished with students cooking up their fish for a tasty lunch.

The fishing unit not only strengthened outdoor skills but also encouraged patience, teamwork and a deeper connection to the natural environment. Our students can be incredibly proud of what they achieved, and many have already expressed excitement for our upcoming camp to Rottnest Island, which will include fishing.

Fish in the Chapel!

If you come to the Chapel between now and Tuesday in Week 9, you might just see a whole lot of fish "swimming" across the chapel wall! Maria Loreto, our Junior School RAP teacher, worked with all our Year 1 to 3 students to bring the fish to life after an invitation from Rev'd Meliata from the All Saints' parish.

Rev'd Meliata invited our students to decorate the fish to put up in the chapel for the Christian season of Lent. One the the Bible stories Anglican churches hear in Lent is about Jesus calling his disciples, many of whom were fisherman.

When the fish come down, there are plans for some crosses to go up - the year 5 and 6 students are currently working on these.   A big thank you to Rev'd Meliata for preparing all the materials!

Please do come and see the student work up on the wall, and all are always warmly welcome to sit in the Chapel space to reflect or pray.

Our Year 12 students have made a strong start to the year with the launch of Flexi Fridays. The program is already providing a valuable mix of learning, wellbeing and preparation for life beyond school.

Over the past few weeks, students have taken part in sessions including the P.A.R.T.Y. program, guest presentations from Headspace and Elevate Education, and workshops focused on leadership and personal development. These opportunities are giving students practical skills, guidance and space to think about their future pathways.

Flexi Fridays also include dedicated time for study, connection and Recreation for Life activities, helping students balance academic demands with wellbeing.

We look forward to seeing the program continue to support our Year 12s throughout the year.
