Mental Health in Primary Schools

The school holidays are here! While we all look forward to the change of pace, the shift away from school routines can sometimes feel like a bit of a juggle.
Supporting your child’s wellbeing over the break doesn’t require a master plan or a perfect list of activities. Sometimes, the simplest things make the biggest difference.
In a busy world, it is good to have unstructured time. This is time when there are no plans. In these quiet moments, children use their imagination and recharge their energy. Please do not feel you must plan an activity for every hour. Letting children just "be" is a great way to help them rest.
When there is no school, days can feel very different. Having one or two habits can help children feel safe. This could be:
- Going to bed at the same time most nights
- Having a quiet morning followed by a short walk outside
- Having a regular movie night or a special meal together
We know the holidays can be busy for parents who are still working or managing the household. You don't need a full day of activities to reconnect. Small-connections work wonders:
- A 5-minute chat while they help you fold laundry
- Reading one chapter of a book together before bed
- Listening to their favourite song in the car
Some days will feel easy, and other days may feel difficult. Both are okay. If the day feels stressful, a bit of fresh air or an early bedtime could be a reset for both children and familie.
Enjoy the holiday time with your family! We look forward to seeing everyone back, refreshed and ready, for the new school term.
