Year Five and Six

Hello families and welcome back to another school year!
We have been working hard in the 5/6 area - already completing our first class novel 'A Ghost in my Suitcase' and getting through Data, Factors and Multiples in Maths, now focussing on multi-digit multiplication.
Literacy
In Literacy we finished our class book "A Ghost in my Suitcase". The book involved a little girl by the name of Celeste, going to China and meeting her grandmother who unveiled an incredible family secret of ghost hunting. Can Celeste, her grandma and her adopted child Ting Ting save their family mansion before a powerful ghost called Shen Da Pai ruins their
lives?
"It was very interesting and unpredictable" Eli
"It was very interesting, I thought Celeste was there just to spread her mums' ashes but so much more happened" Luke
"It was very intriguing trying to figure out what was going to happen next" Seb.
Also, in Literacy we are finishing off our persuasive writing about family history. We are now getting ready for our next book, Deadly Science.

Maths
In Maths we have just finished our topic on Data and are starting our new topic on Multiplication. In data we learnt about plot points, different types of graphs, how to find the mode of a data set and how to use spreadsheet to collate data. We have focussed on different strategies to solve multiplication equations, particularly the distributive property method - so to solve 28 x 6 we would break the equation into 20 x 6 = 120 and 8 x 6 = 48 and add the two answers to get the result of 168.
Talents and Achievements
We have been focussing on our unique talents in our 5/6 space. The students made posters stating; 'Come and see me if you need help.......' followed by ways in which they can assist other children in the school, focussing on special skills they have. We have also started a community connections wall in the classroom, where we can display photos, certificates and articles from the local paper about our students' achievements.
