Year Three and Four

✺ Hello Families ✺

It has been such an enriching start to our first term together. We’ve spent these opening weeks weaving together our new classroom rhythms and deciding how we want to learn as a community. There is a wonderful energy in the 3/4 space as learners settle into their routines and begin to grow more connected to one another.

We've established our Buluk's Ways of Being which outline the ways we wish to act, be and feel in our learning space. These we created completely by our learners and have been useful in our intial weeks back at school.

We are patient

We are respectful

We are responsible

We show teamwork

Our Earth, Our Responsibility

Our journey into Earth and Space Science kicked off with an incredible excursion to IMAX Melbourne and watching the power of extreme weather on the big screen brought our community project to life. Back in the classroom, we’ve connected this to our investigation of water sources.

This week, we are exploring the journey from source to tap, specifically looking at the Goulburn Weir’s vital role in our local water cycle. Our learners put their scientists' hats on and explored how they would take "dirty water" and use filtration to make it clean again.

Flexible Thinking in Numeracy

We’ve been busy consolidating place value by focusing on ordering numbers by place value, regrouping, expressing non-standard expansion of numbers and applying the split strategy solve addition and subtraction problems.

To bring this to life, learners built their names using MAB blocks and practiced regrouping the totals. It was fantastic to see them recognise that a number like 160 isn’t just 1 hundred and 6 tens but can also be viewed flexibly as 16 tens.

Finding Our Balance

Establishing our daily routines has brought a lovely sense of calm to the space. Our Mindful Moment has become a favourite. Learners are exploring different strategies to reset their bodies and minds after break times, ensuring they are grounded and ready to learn.
